Best 2.1 Speaker Set's??? Studio monitors???

These KRK 8's with 10" Sub is what I planned to buy.  I need a system in which I can mix/master my hip hop beats on, and at the same time turn around and play video games, blu rays, surf the web and even bump when I throw a party from time to time.  Obviously $800 seems a bit steep, but for mixing/mastering purposes I need something good.  I want to hear the quality sounds I've been missing my entire life, and just be able to rock out for hours on end.  I realize these are big, and I just built a custom desk that would fit them no problem.

I really can't afford the Yamaha H80M's 2.1 set up at $1099, it's just too damn much.  Anyway my question is, are there any other cheaper 2.1 set ups that I can get good mixes on in the same price range worth checking out? I won't lie when I started my quest to get a 2.1 set up my budget was only at $150, but now it's more then quadrupled because I really want a quality set that's going to last me a long time. With the other adapters and wires I have in my cart it's about $875 shipped for everything.

I have the KRK 8's and love them, you will not be let down at all. I will tell you this, go for a audio interface that has balanced outs, it makes a huge difference.

Please for the love of god don't buy the Yamahas even if you have the money. One of the most overhyped monitors I've ever heard.

I'd suggest the Emotiva Airmotiv series. They put most KRKs I've heard to shame, and I used KRKs for a long time. Maybe the 5s.

Go for either the Emotiva Airmotiv or KRK.

For around $1000, i'd rather grab a KRK Rokit 10-3 over the Yamaha.

Totally forgot they have a killer sale on. The Airmotiv 6 had the best bass I've ever heard in a monitor under 2k.

You might even want to give these guys a shot...

They're fairly new, and big, but they extend even deeper than the 6s and if they're anywhere near as good, these Stealths are probably killer. You wouldn't even need a sub.

Good luck and post a review and pictures when you get everything set up. I'd like to see how they fit on your custom desk. What type of studio gear are you connecting them to? Some guy on YouTube has posted a couple videos of a similar system but it doesn't look like he has any intention of using them for actual mixing.

I have a Roland MV 8800, and a turn table.  I gotta get a keyboard too.  I'm pretty new to this but I started making beats and using my pc's speakers were horrible with too much signal noise/hum to the point the hum is 3-4 times louder then my beats.  I will definitely post pictures when I get it set up, my desk wasn't build around these speakers and these speakers are huge so it might look a little funny, but I will work with it.  Might build a separate draw desk on the side to help expand it a bit.  As is my desk is 78" Wide, 30" Depth, but the Roland is pretty big.  I still gotta grab another monitor for that too.  It's costing more then I planned originally, but being able to work without frustrations is a big thing for me, as well as being able to use my roland and roll to the right to use my pc etc...

What will your main source be to the speakers?

Well I don't have my mixer or a switch relay just yet, but when I do everything will be hooked up to it via TRS.  I did buy an Behringer USB audio interface though so I can connect my PC up to it right away for gaming, movies, etc... but my Roland will hook up directly to it as well for making beats, sampling, etc...

This is what I have, and what many people recommended me to use as well.  Allows me to record and play back.  Handy little device, comes with a lot of software I'm told as well.

have you heard the KEF LS50?

Your best bet is to get a mixer to hook everything into.

Have you? If so, can you tell me your thoughts on them?
