INEARCUSTOM - Cheapest re-shell ever? - Page 23

Just thought I'd give an update on my story. I originally sent my UE700's and impressions in last week of March, after discussing with Rob over email we decided to double up (two sets of UE700s) the drivers and add a damper to one set to increase base. Got him the second set I believe a week after that, so first week of April they had all the pieces.

I finally received my shells on 05/11/13, looked great. Both fit well, maybe a little play in the rit ear but pretty good. So, plug them in and the right shell is totally dead, changed cables and still dead. Left one had sound but horrible sound, like a cell phone speak with zero bass totally flat, kinda like when your cable isn't plugged in all the way to your audio source. Needless to say I was very disappointed.

Send them back the next Monday, email explaining in detail the problem and reply was that they can't tell me the problem untill they do some tests. Followed up with them a week later(specifically asking about both problems) about three days after the tracking confirmed delivery. Reply the next day say they received today (I knew that was wrong) and they will fix them up, not addressing what the problem is again. However, in this reply they asked what is the problem with the left shells sound, they "plugged it in and seems ok". Again had to explain in detail the problem, this was the first week of June.

Emailed again14 days later 06/20/13 for a follow up and no reply yet.

Another thing that makes me angry is if and when we get replys they all have the email string history deleted, no wonder they can't stay organized or don't know what you previously talked about. Stupid.

Just sharing my story I am hoping for a happy ending but fully expect to get them back with both sides having bad sound. I hope I am wrong.

that sucks, after all this complaints especially questionable customer support, i would likely stay away from them until i get as many good impressions. Am sorry for you and your wallet. Get the IEMs back instead of customs.

Well, as i have heard, mostly the IEMs get screwed if you add drivers to its default numbers, why- am not sure but probably due to tuning of default drivers present in it (it may be different in your case, may be due to faulty low driver or whatever).

And ofcourse better or worse, the whole sound signature will change when done so and you may mostly end up not liking them. JM2C

Regards

The email thing drives me crazy also. What I've done is cut and paste their reply each time into the email I'm sending. Which creates a continuous string in my sent mail.

Beginning to sound like kozee all over again. I imagine that thanks to the exposure on headfi they've become busier then they expected to at this point and are now struggling. Hope you all get things sorted to your satisfaction!

Cheers

There should be something in the title warning Head Fiers about this company

There has been a dual driver Ety ER4 made that I know of, but it was done by UM back before they got really big. I emailed almost every CIEM company out there and noone would do a one off project like that so I imagine your UE700 sounds like crap.

Sorry to post this in this thread, but at this point you'd honestly be better off going with Inearz..

I gotta agree with you guys. If i had known it was going to take so long i probably would have paid extra and gone with inearz... Rob was not very honest up front. I figured a month max, and after i had paid already and inquired he was not willing to tell me how long it would take... wouldnt even give me a time frame

Yep, Honesty is not one of his strong points.

Rob offers reshelling service on eBay as well, which is how I initially found him in November 2012. On eBay he responds super fast, but I believe he's trying to earn your business.

I bought a re-shell from him on ebay last month, for a TF-10,  did the impressions from the kit, but not sure if they came out right or not, they didn't look right.

Anyway, after reading this thread I am now seriously thinking of getting my money back (less cost of impression kit) that I spent on ebay for his services and cancelling the whole thing.

(06:19:33) Visitor 82588038: My name is Kurt Hertel. I sent you my impressions and a pair of Westone UM2s, and wanted to know if my impression appear OK, and when they might be finished. Thank you.
(06:19:38) *** Rob Reyna joined the chat ***
(06:19:54) Rob Reyna: let me look brb
(06:22:28) Rob Reyna: Hey Kurt not sure if your package is here yet I don't see it but it might be hidding
(06:22:41) Rob Reyna: we go in the order that the packages were recieved to be fair to everyone
(06:22:53) Rob Reyna: if there is any problems with the impressions we will contact you
(06:23:00) Rob Reyna: as far as finishing dates
(06:23:13) Rob Reyna: it can take up to 6 weeks but we are making great progress to improve times
(06:24:58) Visitor 82588038: Wow. OK.
(06:25:40) Rob Reyna: yes everything is hand crafted and we do our best to make sure each product we send out meets our high standards
(06:25:51) Rob Reyna: and looks as well as sounds good for everyone who purchases
(06:31:11) Visitor 82588038: quality is definitely more important to me than speed, but I was surprised by your estimate of up to six weeks, since it says on your site that production can take "10 business days." According to USPS, your received the package on 5/25.
(06:32:38) Rob Reyna: oh we apologize for that on our website we recently changed everything to 30 days and ln some cases longer but we might have missed one of the items and we may need to update that one
(06:33:03) Rob Reyna: we just have been getting a ton of orders
(06:33:11) Rob Reyna: so we recently updated the processing time
(06:33:20) Rob Reyna: and we are doing our best to get them out as quick as possible
(06:33:33) Rob Reyna: and we have made some major improvments to our production methods
(06:38:52) Visitor 82588038: I'm glad to hear that, and the quality of the product is paramount. I'm just anxious to try them out. I'm definitely glad I elected not to send my UM3Xs though, as I wouldn't want to be without them for that long. If I do decide I can live without them for so long and someday order another pair, do you keep my impressions so I won't have to take more?
(06:39:37) Rob Reyna: sure after we make them we send your original impressions back to you so if you ever want a new pair we can just use the same ones again
(06:45:28) *** Visitor 82588038 left the chat ***

Ironically, "... can take 10 days..." is still on the web site. I figure I'm all in at this point, so wtf. Live and learn. I am glad I didn't send my UM3xs though.

Well today I received my customized tf10 after, I guess 2 months. The fit is perfect I don't feel any irritation on both of my ears btw I did my own impressions👏👏👏👍👍. Build quality well let me say that I get what I paid for😐 there's no comparing these to UM or WESTONE heirs and so on. The sound is perfect better than the original tf10. If only I knew that customizing your tf10 will be this good I should done it long time ago. It's really much better. Would I recommend inears to somebody , maybe if your willing to wait and don't want to spend a lot of money then yes.

Going back over your previous posts, I'd say I was about 2-3 weeks behind you. Thank you for the first glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel. More importantly, your comments on the resulting product have given me hope. For $120, I wasn't expecting pretty, in fact I could give a **** less what they look like, as long as they are comfortable and sound good (I only need them to be as good as the UM2's they are made from), I'll be over the moon given the price. Even the wait and the lack of responsiveness (worse) would be forgotten.

I really don't think the doubling up on the drivers is the culprit of the sound, really did sound like they weren't plugged in all the way, I think the connection in the shell had to be bad. And since one was completely dead probably both had this issue. Even when I put them on my amp nothing added power to the sound.
