ODAC vs. MODI for Project Sunrise ii

Hey all,

 

I just build the PSii and I'm really enjoying it. This is my first headphone amp and as I was afraid, has sparked a real passion. It sounds pretty good, but I'm using a laptop soundcard/xfi extremegamer as a DAC. As you can imagine, I'd love a dedicated DAC that's affordable, but has good sound.

 

I've read that the ODAC is very balanced, but I know that the Modi just hit the market as well. Which do you think would pair better with the Sunrise? I'm currently using the Samson SR850's, but will likely be buying the DT990's in a month or so.

Bump -anyone have a comparison of the Modi/ODAC that they could direct me to? I saw the comparison that pits the DAC/Amp combos vs. each other, but that doesn't quite fit my question.

There some topic had comparison between O&O with M&M and there no different,but i had sunrise ii with odac sound great imagine and better soundtage also instrument place is excellent.Good combo though

Would it make sense to get a DAC at all if I already have the xfi xtremegamer sound card?

I have the same sound card.  I asked someone if Xtreme Gamer---> Little-Dot MKV----> Senn HD650 would be a good set-up and he said it would work very well.  The card itself is powerful as a DAC.  Since you have a Laptop it's easy to transport.  I would say a separate DAC would be useful for if you don't have your laptop with you yet you have an Ipod or other device.
