I like it very much with the HD800s.  I don't listen to that combo much, but when I do I am very happy.  Others here have said that they don't feel that the WA7 drives the HD800s loudly enough, but I get plenty of volume from my system.  I don't listen at ear-bleed level all that much, but the WA7 is certainly capable of driving my HD800s there.  I think the amp does not reveal quite the same level of detail as my WA22 does, but we're talking about a very small difference which, for a vast majority of my listening, at least, does not make or break the deal.  Both amps are lovely and capable.

Thanks GalaxyGuy.. glad to hear that it's close to the WA22. That's pretty impressive for 1/2 the price and includes a decent DAC. Hopefully it's a step up from the Schiit Bifrost/Lyr.

thinking about getting a second WA7 to replace my HeadRoom Ultra Desktop Amp at home only because the HeadRoom only does 44/16 and I wanted to really hear my 96/24 files downloaded from HDtracks.  Otherwise the Headroom is a great amp.

The WA7 has made it possible for me to enjoy my HDtracks downloads in 96/24 and 192/24 (although I don't have many of those- yet). Absolutely love the WA7!

Got my Schiit stack but connected only Byfrost right now while still using WA7's amp and so far sounds  great but I'm planing to keep using it like this for about a week before switching back to WA7's plus I have Moon Audio Silver Dragon cable coming for my HD700 so I will try it as well before switching back. I also got Sudio-GD NFB 11.32 which I'm interested to use as DAC only but drivers don't install as they should so I contacted seller to find out if he had any problems

Ive been happy with my WA7 for many months now, but just recently found out that it was not set as recommended :)

My Jriver was playing it in Direct Sound.. should have read manual where it says clearly to set ASIO.. Here comes the problem though.

When set to ASIO, Jriver can only play max 96/24.. When trying to play 192/24 song Jriver says .. "playback could not be started.. this format would work.. 96 /24 " and then "something went wrong.. this output may not be supported by your hardware.."

Though in Windows (8) in the properties of the device I can see format 24 / 192 available and it is set as default.

Similar problem in WASAPI mode and only when I disable event style it plays without error messages

Can someone guide me in the right direction, please? Is this WA7 defect, Jriver issue or something set wrong in my windows?

And yes, I do understand that I will never be able to hear difference between 24/192 and 24/96 and already 24/96 is much more than human being can discern. Still, it itches me that something is wrong in my setup :)

It's known problem that you can't use WASAPI event mode, updated driver is needed to fix the problem. I don't use j river but have no problem using ASIO with foobar2000 or playing 24/192 files with it

Thanks.. just tried in foobar2000, ASIO: Unrecoverable playback error: Could not set sample rate to 192000 Hz" and some other error in WASAPI..

For WASAPI you have to use WASAPI (push) and for ASIO: ASIO for C-Media USB  as output

So I decided to switch to NFB 11.32 as DAC (would recommend to use foobar with KS over WASAPI) only (while still using WA7's as amp driving my HD700 with stock cable for  now) , which I got same day as Schiit stack, and finally with help of seller got working beyond 24/48 and while it has ES9018 on some recordings it sounds as good as WA7, basically meaning both sound excellent while others sound better on WA7. But I prefer Byfrost Uber over NFB11.32 because of a little bit better details but still WA7 has best clarity and details among three DACs or maybe it has best senergy. So I think  that depending on headphones you use ore sound signature you prefer you will decide if it's upgrade, sidegrade or no difference.

For everyone's information, since Byfrost and WA7 using the same USB chip while using different DAC chip, you can use the same drier for both units. I'm currently using latest Schiit driver v. 1.03 without problems and it also will allow you to use WASAPI out with foobar. Will report later this week after trying Moon Audio Silver Dragon cable and more later how those DACs work with Lyr with 2 sets of tubes.

Just picked up the WA7 from the Post Office.  Shipping wasn't too bad to Canada via USPS.. about a week and a half. Man is this thing small compared to the Schiit stack.  Got some desk space back.

Although I ordered both sets of tubes, I'll let it break in with the Sovtek and get used to the sound signature. First song.. the Longest Road Deadmou5 ReMix.. wow, this thing kicks out the bass. Now to give it some time, let it and me break in..

Currently using Byfrost Uber with WA7 with EH tubes as amp with foobar KS out to drive HD700 with Silver Dragon cable (cable has 24 hours of use) and while listening sesion started only 10 minutes I think I prefer Byfrost over WA7's DAC while using stock HD700 cable my preference was WA7 over Byfrost. For me Byfrost sounds grainier than WA7's DAC plus bass sounds a little boomy

Update: So after over 15 hours, which includes about 4 hours of listening, I switched back to WA7 DAC to see if extra hours make any difference but no I still prefer Byfrost/WA7 combo while I hear less grain and bass is better now.

I still have the Bifrost Uber until Tuesday when I deliver it to the buyer. Lyr is gone. I might give the Bifrost/WA7 a shot Monday night just for giggles but I need time for the WA7 to break in.  Even after just over an hour it the WA7 starting to smooth out and the mids are filling in.

+1

The WA7/TH900 combo is magic.  Pure and simple.  The bass extension is superb, the mids are right there without sounding too bright and the highs, while in my opinion just a tad suppressed, are still quite present and sound fantastic.  What a great combination!
