With most tubes it's not good, but certain tubes it's okay, but there are much better pairings out there.

Since you're saying it's more laidback and dark, I was wondering if the micro details are still there. I would want an amp that is able to extract details.

Not bragging but I'm coming from listening to a SET 2a3 amp on my speakers.

Would the 339 fit the bill?

Thanks

The HE-500 does not pair well with the Bottlehead Crack.  There's not nearly enough output power to have them sing, and once you start increasing the volume, you'll hit distortion.  I pair the Crack w/speedball with the HD800, and I get some rather fascinating results.

Hope this helps.

Stevtt.  Congrats on the LCD3.  And your other Schitt.

My fingers slipped on Friday as well.  Well actually slipped about ten times and then accidentally hit the send button.  I called Ray and ordered the RSA Intruder.  Now I am tying up fedex's tracking website.  Scheduled to be here Wednesday, but hoping for sooner.  :-)

Can you pls advise what tube that you have rolled and their effects?

Are those tube difficult to get? I heard you need to get in pairs.

Micro details were still evident to these ears, but the treble was rolled off a bit, and never harsh.

I have never had a chance to hear what you mention about your speaker set up, so I'm afraid I cannot compare that for you, sorry.

Ray makes good stuff. I'm curious as to how that sounds.

Hey Fester -- It'll be interesting to compare the Intruder and the SR-71B.

Good thing I don't have need for a mobile amp/DAC combo otherwise I'd be giving serious thought to the Intruder.

@Stevtt & Ardgedee.  I'll let you know how it sounds when I get it and as I burn it in.  Looks like it is at the local Fedex facility today and will be delivered tomorrow.

@Ardgedee.  After it burns in, we can have that mini RDU portable rig meet we were thinking about and compare the SR71B and Intruder.

Heh, talking about gear that just showed up, right after the meet I ordered the UHA-6S.MKII, and yesterday my Heir 4.A showed up.

On a slightly worse note, a couple days after the meet the wood on my LCD-2s cracked, but I got them back today and the new wood looks even better.
