Shure 840 vs dt770 pro shures worth getting?

I already have the beyer dt770 and the denon d2000 and shure 440 plus sr60i. I'm looking to trade my grado and beyer for the 840 is it worth it? I listen to Cyprus hill placebo and eminem mostly. I love the soundstage on the 770 but have heard the 840 are so detailed.

840 don't have much bass. 770 is better for Eminem, not sure who Cyprus Hill Placebo is though.

What about vocals? Do the 840 have better instrument separation and clarity? My d2000s are amazing in that department. I want something closer to that in clarity

Heya,

Not worth it, at all.

If you're looking for something worth trading in headphones for, that isn't a side grade, look to much better headphones. And since you already have the D2000 and DT770, it's not going to be easy to find something actually better. Everything you're currently looking at is equivalent, lesser, or just a side-grade or flavor-change.

Very best,

Thank you for your reply as helpful as always smily_headphones1.gif would you say the dt770 are on the same level then? Are the 840 a big step up from my shure 440s?

Heya,

A big step? Depends on what you're using it for. The SRH840 is a good headphone, but it's by no means some kind of ultimate audio legendary device or something. If you want a neutral headphone with some slight mid-bass coloration, it's a good headphone for that. It's not overly comfortable or built overly superb. It's audio quality is good, but it's not a detail retrieval king like some flagship or something. It's just a good monitor headphone. They're better than the SRH440's, but they're also rather different in signature too. It's on the same level as the DT770 and many other entry mid-fi headphones. It just comes down to preference and flavor, and ultimately what you're looking for in a headphone. It's not like A is better than B is better than C and strict. It's actually all a big preference game and what you like is what is best for you.

Very best,

Might help to know what source(s) your plugging the headphones into?

I wouldn't say it worth it at all. The SRH840 are quite detailed, yes, but they aren't detail monsters like the SRH940. You probably won't notice a great increase in detail from the D2000s. I rarely use my 840's over my D2ks or A900x.

My source is my iphone 4s. Been listing to my beyers and i just don't think i can give up the soundstage i think that's why i love my d2000 so much is the massive sound stage i use them mainly for gaming. Been eyeing up the beyer dt880 too what is the soundstage like compared to d2000 and 770 pro? and are there nay other headphones in the same price point as the others better for gaming with a bigger soundstage than the d2000.
