HD800 older version??...Peaks

I have a pending deal on a pair of HD800...used..2x owners....serial # 03397..

I think,the phones came out in 2010.??,and do show slight sighns of wear,from the pics the seller e-mailed me

 

I am concerned about a 6K peak ,that a friend is reading from the  graph 

Didn't Sennheiser correct this problem,and how bad was it?

 

How severe is this peak,

Will the treble be high enough to alter SQ ,to a point it will be unlistenable?

Most of my music is..classical,acoustic guitar,mild jazz,80's rock.

 

Any help/advise would be appreciated

you have to mod the hd800 to get the 6k peak tame down.

 

The know'd hot/edgy treble is coming from it's original silverplated cable. i highly recommend to HARD rewire it to pure copper cable. such as cardas hd800 cable. you can also get a nice tube amp for warm things up..

Are you saying that the peak is on ALL HD800's,or,just in the earlier versions?

 

Currently,I am listening to a pair of 800's,..serial number 02029,and I am not experiencing ,any issues at all?but,my music is pretty low key..classical..etc.

i believe all HD 800 has the peak as it actually a ringing in the caps making the 6khz peak.

Actually,the 800's that I'm borrowing right now,and they have an even lower SN..so..?

I have the hd800 and neither experiment problems with the treble..

Tubes and a new cable are good ideas for HD800,

They can be too bright for pop music however I find them just right for well recorded albums.  My serial number is just above 10000.

Yes,after a few replies ..seems the serial # has really nothing to do with peaks,your is a newer model-the one I'm getting today is 03397

(90% of my music is classical,lite jazz,acoustic,80's rock

When I bought on a cd,like Albert Cummings,a lot of hard ,fast guitar work...thinks start to go over the edge

So,yes,on some music,,metal,..etc...things might peak

So far no issues at all

Just got the HD 800's..a few hours ago.

This used pair has been well taken care of..

After doing an A-B comparison,this pair has an increase,in bass ,,fit is tighter,overall SQ is stronger ,deeper,clarity excellent-not as bright as the borrowed pair

This is after ,playing the same flac files over & over again,for the last 3 hours..a total of 15-20 music files

 

Absolutely ,no peak,not to my ears, anyway.

 

Extremely happy with my new headphones

The HD800 need much warming filming time. In my case I decided to not suffer for more than 200 hours the process and let them playing "to the wind"... Although in this case that the wind was more "under cover" also resulting in some rather curious and somewhat comical situation:

I remember that I had with a large stuffed cushion, simulating a head and because the HD800 not isolate, sometimes to not bother covering Teddy with a blanket and some people who were at home in those days looked me with a face of hallucination, probably thinking that where had gone to put.
Only audiophiles know how these things work, so I was not to give many explanations as to explain to the visits that are matters of shootings!!
It's better to forget the situation. The life of the audiophile is sometimes very sacrificed.beyersmile.png


Approximately 12 hours a day with different types of music from radio that I have a another small secondary system as well...and of course the Assembly onto the bed and simmer as you can imagine the scene!! But really the experiment was effective.

When I felt curiosity, every certain number of hours i took the 800 to Teddy provided, once them and the matter seemed to work perfectly, as I wrote above and I began to detect the potential of headphones and to show what they were going to be able to.
"Unlimited potential" confirmed in subsequent hearings and obviously endorsed today.

I was lucky enough to receive once again many of the visitors and some of them after testing the Senns I think that they finally begin to understand the situation

For future purchases, the experiment will be the same. I have no doubt about it.
Soon comes the turn for SR-009 and GES. Teddy is prepared for them...

I have a 12,xxx serial like many others that have been posted in that serial range my frequency graph does not have the 6k peak.  It actually has a slight dip.  Granted my frequency graph is from sennehesier and maybe they fudged it :)  However, I also don't feel the need to equalize any harsh treble out so I have no reason to suspect this.
