I'm in Toronto. Prefer not to wait for shipping so local would be good. Thanks.

Take Five Audio, but they are an on-line store (Canadian).

Sayal has some brick and mortar stores around the GTA.

Thanks. I've also heard of people building interconnects from ethernet cables... would that also work for headphone cables? I do have a few extra laying around. The wires do look a little thin (24 gauge vs 22-20 for most detachable cables that come with studio cans).

I would suggest browsing through the DIY Cable Galley.

There is an absolute wealth of information and ideas in there.

What headphones are you recabling that come with 22-20awg conductors in the stock cable?  Most recables are done with 28-24awg wires, with 22 on the larger end, most of which are larger than stock cables.

Also, I second Avro-arrow's suggestion of looking through the DIY gallery.  Lots of ideas for inspiration as well a responsive group with a lot of skill and knowledge.

I took apart the cable that came with the M-Audio Q40, and each conductor looked a bit thicker than the 24awg wires in my ethernet cable so I'm assuming it's 22awg. The 3 wires were not separately insulated and were all touching one another, which may be part of the reason why everyone's having problems with the cable, once the painted "insulation" rubs off you have a short.

But yes I did look through the DIY gallery, thanks for the suggestion. I think the consensus is that ethernet cables would work, but the solid strand wires tend to be stiff.
