Any point for an amp for the Koss DJ100 headphones?

I am not much of an audiophile but I grabbed the koss at a nice price that was available in Canada (usually everything in Canada is way more overpriced or unavailable). Now it turns out they're not good unless I have an amp. I don't feel like shelling out another $40 just so it would sound a bit better. Plus I have the equalizer thing in the windows playback devices option if I need to enhance or reduce bass or treble and such. Any amp suggestions under $10-15 or do I even need one considering I listen to mostly youtube videos? (by mostly as in 60% other times it's 200kb+ encrypted bit rate music)

 

Usual uses: play video games, listen to epic music (two steps from hell, audiomachine, mark petrie [ex: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pnRGsKfuY68]) {I really enjoy strings such as cello and such in a song} and some alt. rock (anberlin, nickleback, etc.) I am going to get Asus Xonar DG for its Dolby Headphone later on if that matters.

Well, you can ask a dozen different owners of it here and they'll all give you a different response. They're OK without an amp depending on source. I like them with the Clip+ and Ipod Touch 2G, but prefer to use them with an external amp 100% of the time. If you end up liking them you can just upgrade to one later. Actually the Xonor DG has very good measurements I think, so that might do just fine.

 

Sometimes with onboard sound they could sound awful. They can be rather limited depending on source.

 

For me, they're a little more fatiguing without an amp, but still not too bad. An external amp makes them more balanced sounding with better bass control and even a larger soundstage. They also benefit from a nice DAC, but I won't go there..(which the Xonor obviously has).
