[Review] Sennheiser IE800: Appreciation, Frustration and a bunch of What-Ifs - Page 6

Thread Starter

Off the top of my head I'd say the soundstage is about on par with the K3003.

As for isolation, maybe a little better than the AKGs, but they're still vented and you won't get isolation comparable to closed IEMs.

Thanks James444, now I am getting really interested.. One of the reason I sold the fitear 334 was there was a little lack of treble extension and some fitting issue but I absolutely love the mid and bass. I eventually stay with akg3003i due to its overall balance tonal qualities and its easy fit.

The akg3003i really grew in me overtime but I sometime wish there was a little isolation.. Not asking for a lot, just a bit more as I am afraid of the vacuum suction issue of the fit ear 334.

Seems like ie800 has slightly more bass (and I love deep low sub bass), same soundstage, slightly better isolation, love to read that the treble is on par or better ( I don't mind a little sparkle here and there) in fact I am not a fan of dark headphone like the audeze cans, is as small and cute as the akg3003i.. This may be what I am looking for.. Can't find any real reviews except yours at page 1... Which by the way is really a master class reviews...

Also sorry to hear that muppet face has some issues with the phones, she is one of those ears i have faith in. Wish her luck in getting it fix so we could have another award winning reviews like yours here.

Now I need to wait for it to be release in us... Life is full of waiting... And wanting..

I would personally dismiss that Sennheiser rep comment entirely. Sennheiser is a large corporation and I would assume many of their employees aren´t all that "in the know" about the companies Club Orpheus level products. The IE800 has been released officially, it´s just that the production is slow so not many batches are out there. Mine has a serial number <250 for example, seems to be from one of the very first batches. They are sold by authorized Sennheiser Club Orpheus retailers here in Finland. The box, certifications etc are all valid and you can hear from the sound that these have nothing to do with fakes either.

As for the clicking sound, I have a feeling some sort of clicking sound is probably normal for these if you tap on the shells hard enough. Mine does it too (although when moving etc it doesn´t do it, I have to tap the shell with a finger). The sound is like a small spring, maybe the element has some kind of spring-dampening (complete guess)? It doesn´t bother me at all though.

Has anyone tried the IE800 from various portable amps yet? Would be interested in hearing which ones pair well.

Oh and one more +1 for the rumbling sub bass: was listening to the IE800 downtown today and with Rammstein playing you can´t even hear a bus pass by. Even a bit dangerous smily_headphones1.gif

Any comparisons to the TG!334, K3003 and 1plus2 would be very very interesting. There are not enough opinions on how one would stack up against another; not many members owning all these fantastic iem's for that matter!

PS, I really dig your avatar; hilarious show wink_face.gif

Just a cable issue thankfully. I can't even make it to Sennheiser's shop to get a replacement cable because they close by the time I finish work. Grrr.

I'm considering it. But I'm just going to have to find someone to help me get the cable from the service centre. Problem is, I've been away for the last six - seven years. So favours are going to be hard to come by at the moment!

I want to upgrade. Looking at a few things, primarily the IE800s (which apparently don't require crazy equipment to sound good)...but then I have other things in mind like the Tralucent 1plus2s. I was considering the Heir 8.As at one point, but I think I'm turned off it for several reasons. I might still look at it, but maybe not. Then I've got a few others I want to look at as well. I like the FitEars, but apparently I'm told that I'd like the 335 the best out of the lot.

have you demo the heir audio series? i am looking to try it out if possible this weekend due much recommendation from most forum-ers.

1plus2 seems good.

yes, Fitear is darn expensive in singapore. i tried 435, 2 yrs back. knock my socks off, vocal is shimmering on j-pop.
after hearing the price from another guy, i wear back my socks. Fitear are exquisite pieces. I hope to try the Flat 4 too.
