[Noob Question] Still Don't Understand What is Preamp :(

I did some search on google but not quick understand how preamp works..

Does it has lower noise / use to power a passive speaker?

If I got a Little Dot MK VI, will it be able to connect NFB6 as a preamp?

Could someone explain in simply language? frown.gif

No, you need a power amplifier to power passive speakers. Active speakers have built-in power amplifiers.

Yes, but I'm not sure why you'd want to. To use the NFB6 as a control amp?

u know, i'm not entirely sure either. like i know what it does, but is it necessary in a system?

It is not necessary unless your system needs some or all of its functions.

 

In a simple system of a source and a headamp you are not likely to need a separate preamp. You don't need source switching, the headamp already has a volume control, and you hardly need any additional gain (unless that source is a turntable which needs a phono preamp).
