The best DAC for $2500 ?

Thread Starter

I know this has been asked before but that was a while ago and more options are available since then. Please recommend anything upto $2500 sound quality being the priority, also it must have usb input. some DACs i have been looking at so far

Ark mx+

Acre qb-9

Hegel HD20

Violectric v800

what do you guys think? how do these match up and am i missing  some better dac out there, any advice much appreciated

I did not hear any dac you mention. So just tip in this price range $2500, Casea Orion Lite USB. It is still not official on their website because their USB audio intereface is not finished yet which will be important part. Reason of the delay is licence driver for WIndows which I read on their chat. I think it is worth wait on this.

uff sorry for double, just wanted edit it..

And another contender Anedio D2 has really nice impressions here so it is probably very good but Sabre chips have asrc and I do not think their USB is something well made.

Calyx 24/192

Cambridge 851C

They sound similar but I picked the 851C due to features. While mine is for sale it's still the best I've heard for the price range you're looking at. Just going in a different direction.

For that amount, the Eximus DP-1 is  a very good competitor too.

Eximus DP1 can be had for around $2700 new. Best dac I've ever heard and I don't think you can beat it without spending a LOT more.

Actually I am seeing it on eBay America for 2299 usd, with free shipping... even cheaper

A bargain at that price-that's what I paid for mine secondhand.

But it's only $1470. So you have another $1000 for a very nice converter. That combination will be very hard to beat.

The Eximus DAC seems to get a good following around these parts, and for good reason I suppose.   I never heard one.  So I'm going to through in the PWD2.  It can be had all day long for $2.5K on AudioGon.  It sounds great and has lots of features as well.
