am I looking for an HD-600, HE-500, or something else?

I regrettably sold all my HPs a couple of months ago and am getting the urge again to pick up a new pair of cans. 

 

I'll probably get either the HD-600 or HE-500 again, because I loved both of them.  Have't listened to too many other types of HPs though

 

Looking for HPs that will sound great all around.  don't want anything pronounced too much.  want great, soft mids and highs, a good bass presence but not anything too big.   The bass on the hd-600 and he-500 was about perfect for me.  nothing more emphasized than that.  i guess im looking for a pretty flat frequency curve.  I realize the he-500 is probably what i'm looking for, but just looking to see if there are any other HPs that meet what I'm seeking.

 

max budget = $600

 

open back only

 

listen to pretty much everything, but definitely more so electronic, trance, D'n'B type music.  some dubstep, some epic OSTs, orchestral/instrumentals

The HE-400 may be right up your ally. It performs really good with electronic because of it's detailed bass and fast planar sound. You'll have 200 bucks to spare on an amp or dac too.
