if i understand your question correctly, you were expecting your dac/amp to increase the amount of bass - but it didnt?

if so - good. IN MY OWN HUMBLE OPINION, dacs and amps arent meant to change what you hear. i am only a novice, i dont even own a dac, but thats still my opinion.

an amp is meant to amp. thats all. a dac is meant to turn digital data into an analog signle, thats all. getting a dac or amp is meant to give you better quality sound, not to change the sound. again, all of this is my own humble, novice opinion.

if your looking to up the bass, there are pleanty of bass boosting amps to choose from, and equalization is always a good option aswell, i personally use an equalizer to boost the sub bass for example.

did i understand you correctly?

Okey thanks! But I dont hear any difference in  quality or bass, and i cant play louder.. So i think its something wrong with the amp...

Have you some tip on some other "bass boosting" amps?

i want to state i dont own the xb1000 or the dacmagic+, just so theres no mistake.

does the dacmagic even have an amp? if its just a dac, it makes sense that you dont have enough volume i guess. but if it does, then i dont really know... to be honest, i think bass boosting amps are usually portable options - like the fiio e11, cmoy amps, zo2 etc. i dont feel comfortable recommending an amp as i only own 2 portable ones and i havnt enough knowledge or experience to do so. i suggest using the sites search option.

for all i know ther may be full sized amps that offer a bass booster too but why not just use an equalizer? do you use foobar?

as for not hearing any difference in sq. what was your source before? according to the specs i read briefly, the dacmagic uses dual wolfson chips, which sounds pretty good to me... im currently in the market for something alot less impressive, but i have a laptop, which means my sound card is probably not all that good. perhaps the sound card you had was already of good quality?

i feel like im searching in the dark really. like i said, i havnt enough experience to answer these questions. if you use foobar i can recommend an equalizer and explain how to install it, more than that - search the forum, im sure youll find what your looking for.

just thought of something though, im guessing your playing files off your computer? set the volume on 80% and use the dacmagics volume control. if your not doing this already, this may be the cause.

If you wanted quality in bass you should've purchased a amp.

i 2nd this, you really should have gotten an amp before a dac if you were looking to power the xb1000's, i own them, and even though they're rated at 24ohms, they're not really that efficient, a good amp would really bring out the bass

oh and for amp recommendations, i personally use the matrix m stage biased into class A, bass is really powerful but you get a really dark sound since its a dark amp, it lends itself well to the xb1000's provided you like that, soundstage sounds a bit congested tho when compared to other amps i've tried them with like the o2 and the headphone amp on the tubedac 11,

o2 also plays well with the xb1000 without coloring the sound, completely neutral if thats more your bag, might make a good match for your dac which you already have

oh and dont ever forget, you can always eq in the bass you want

Before I said anything, I didn't read through comments here biggrin.gif so please forgive me if I mention anything they had before in this thread:)

If you need "more bass" the DigiZoid ZO2.3 should do the drill for you best. With 32 EQ from the least bass to most you can tune it yourself. It is called"your personal subwoofer" a reason! biggrin.gif

Why on earth did you buy a very expensive dac and no amp?

People!

The DACMagic Plus has a headphone jack and a volume control!

BTW, it can't be any worse than the Grado headphone amp or a CMOY.

Anyway, not too sure why you were expecting a bass boost? I agree with the other guys, use EQ if you want bass boost.

So, it does serve as an amp, and is not only a dac?

Its a fine little amp... But for portable use you can do better, since it is both a dac and an amp, and I can't use that feature on the go. I'm using it as my primary amp for now

lol oh i didnt know that, i thought he just had a dac, anyway either the xb1000's are a bad match for the dacmagic or he just needs to eq

i personally seriously recommend using the h82 harmonic maximizer dsp, and switch to bass drum 2 setting, incredible amount of bass is added, thats really the only thing i use when i use xb1000's, or if not just use it plain jane vanilla if the song has alot of bass to begin with (cookie monsta - ginger pubes for example)

The XB1000s dont have that much sub bass... I've used them both with the o2amp, a friends E17, unamped and essence ST. They were muddy too :(. I sent them back, I do not reccomend these headphones for someone expecting a massive amount of sub bass.

Note: Also if you look at the XB1000s freq response it rolls off quite heavily compared to the XB500 and XB700 in the sub bass area. Still bitter with these headphones =/
