can you share your experiences if you have both 3 or 2 or even 1

Owned both DX100 and AK100 at same time for a while.

Technically, the AK100 is close to DX100, however, much lacking in terms of musicality, dynamics and that special euphoric atmosphere in the sound.

Granted the AK100 has better blacks in it.

DX100 is kinda like hearing Adele singing Rolling in the Deep, you feel the artist, that toe tapping "i wanna rock with this" feeling.

AK100 is like hearing some unknown singing the same song, vocally great, hits all the right notes, but nothing jumps out, nothing musical or toe-tapping. It just sound technically good.

Have since sold off the AK100.

What headphones were you using? Due to the 22 ohm headphone out, a higher impedance headphone would suit the AK100 better. However if you're using lower impedance headphones/earphones then the AK100 really isn't suited for that.

I have the RWAK100 and the DX100 and the gap narrows considerably. Purely sonics, the DX100 still has a richer sound however since the SQ is close to the RWAK100, I tend to carry the RWAK100 out more due to its size, battery life, and somewhat more convenient GUI.

I've compared the AK100 next to RWAK100 and for IEMs the AK100 is really a poor excuse. With the Senn HD700 (150 ohm), the gap narrows but the RWAK100 still edges ahead.

As for the Tera Player, I've only experienced it twice but it was a very good experience. Can't really comment on a comparison to the DX100 though as I couldn't use my tracks.

P.S. apologies, I just realised I replied to a Tera Owners thread of which I'm not a Tera owner.

Hi AnakChan,

Am using the JH 13 pro (older version) and i guess the 28 ohm probably is sufficient for AK100. SQ wise the AK100 is close to DX100, so am sure the RWAK100 would be closer. Just that the lacking in terms of musicality, dynamics and euphoric sound, makes the AK100 significantly inferior to the DX100. At least for me.

The DX100 is portable enough for me and pairing the AK100 with an amp to compensate it's shortcoming, for me, defeats the purpose of AK100's portability.

The Tera player is interesting, unfortunately without a working display and UI, as good as it is, will pass.

Am still quite a visual dependent audio user smile.gif

I was the one with the SD card switch issue which has been solved with a quick squirt of Ballistol oil. It was a bit of dust in the switch contact that caused a very slight crackling sound which made the background not completely black like it is usually is with the Tera Player. And the treble presentation suffered as well, not as smooth with details harder to hear. After the application of the cleaning oil and a few reinsertions of the SD Card, the issue was resolved.

Didn't require a return to Charles, only some advice from him.

This is a notification with respect to the the recent and overall behaviour of the individuals that are running the head-fi.org website:

As a manufacturer with a global reputation, not limited to the audio-field alone, I am not permitted to participate any longer in an internet forum, that treats a basic human right - the freedom of speech - in such a poor fashion, as I have experienced here.

I wish Mr. Mansilla all the best for his future and personal development.

Thanks for the ride,

Charles :)

Sorry to see you go, but I can understand your reasons. Perhaps Headfi, can create some unmoderated forums where anything goes. The Audio Asylum forum created an "Isolation Ward" for some of the more far out stuff that seemed to create a lot of over-heated discussions. The discussions on here do not seem to go that far into the personal, but then maybe that is because they are always being cleaned up by the moderators.

So what you want is a thread where you can ride the .WAVe without challenge? How utterly pointless!

Still, a great shame that Charles has been nobbled by the Head-Fi accountants!

Yea, it's a shame but he will always be an email away. I respect his decision a lot though, freedom of speech is important. I'm upset as well that censorship like this has been happening, but then again it's in the rules to be kind. I think the way people were expressing themselves was out of line, and could've gotten the same point across in a much nicer tone.

In other news, the last guy who seemed motivated to make proper measurements gave up too and is now ignoring me too, despite the fact that I tried to be helpful.

I give up myself. There is no sane reason that I should care.

If I read the words of Charles correctly something else happened. I can not remember Charles making any remarks which were impolite, rude, etc. Same for other people by the way, in this and the locked thread.

Skamp, really, if you want to have measurements please buy a Tera Player and do it yourself. The Tera Player is, as you know, not mass produced, so there are not many around. I offered to help as well. You keep hammering the same point over and over again. Other are offering to help. These measurements are not as easy to do. There is no conspiracy. I only seen positive and honest people in the threads about the Tera player.

I am not completely sure about the price, but I believe a Tera sold on here recently for almost 90% of the original price, so there is not a lot of net cost if someone does want to buy one for measurements but does not want to keep it. In the meantime, I will post my impressions when my unit arrives this coming week.

No, of course not. Why would I? I don't understand the level of distrust in all your posts.

What's not to understand? People try to measure it, then go silent and ignore me when I ask for news after a couple weeks have passed.

And are you really suggesting that I spend 840 euros just to get the satisfaction to be able to measure it? Have you completely lost touch with reality? Do you know the actual value of 840 euros?
