Tera Player Owner's Thread - Page 15

I said I would report back on the pairing of the Tera with the DT770-LE, and while they do sound good together, there is not enough volume for me. My Tera is V-0 and the Beyers are low impedance but not such high sensitivity (96db). Either I like music a lot louder than most, or the Tera  just  does not have enough oomph. At maximum volume the music is just about where I listen moderately, and that does not leave any headroom for when I want a bit more.

However, the headphones do sound very good when I include my little Tralucent amp in the chain. I will have to decide if I keep them and use them this way, or if I try something else as my closed headphones for portable use with the Tera. When I say portable, I just mean going out in my back yard, so definitely carrying an extra amp as small as the Tralucent is no problem. If I start traveling again, I may have to find some iems to use for that, but generally I do not like fiddling with iems if I do not have to.

Overall, the DT770-LE is just a bit more dry and clinical than my HD650s, but that is nice for a change. And I do not find them as overly bright and clinical as the Beyer T1s I just sold. These lie somewhere in between the HD650 and the T1. Although I should add that they are not broken in yet.

And Andy, I am curious, do the ATH-ESW9 have enough volume straight out of the Tera?

I have to add that after several days of listening to the Tera, I just plugged my new Beyers into my DX100 to see how they matched up. And it surprised me how much less SQ there is with the DX100. I mean it is a clean and clear sound, and if I had never heard the Tera, I could probalby be happy with it. But the Tera adds something special. There is less digital harshness and more smoothness and fluidity. Non-fatiguing does describe it some, but there is more to it than that. I would also say there is paradoxically more detail and yet less brightness. I always find that combination kind of magical. I can hear everything even more clearly on the Tera, but I never flinch. And that is comparing the exact same WAV files on both units. I already really like the sound of the DT770s on my Tera/Tralucent combo, but I might not even think of keeping these headphones if I was only listening to them on the DX100.

Sorry, if I my enthusiasm is a bit over the top, but this Tera sound is completely new for me. The Tera owners on this thread of course already know what I am talking about.

Its so funny, though I am not fortunate enough at the moment to own a Terra I know what you mean. I am having the same feelings exactly with my new HM-801 in comparison to my old CLAS/Classic set up.

I am looking forward to my return to the UK when Smial1966 has kindly offered to let me listen to his Terra.

Congrats to the owners of this lovely little player, I love the philosophy of it and your thread reminds me very much of the camaraderie of the Final Audio Design thread. Its all about the music!

Mimouille,

Brag all you want, as you've acquired an outstanding DAP that sounds sublime and have joined a very exclusive owners `club'.

Congratulations!

Andy.

So, after reading all the previous (locked) threads, I'm thinking of getting one of these at some point once my CIEMs arrive. Of course I'll have to try one out first! Hopefully I can make the London meet.

Does anyone else find it weird that this is the only high end DAP that is actually portable? The others are all massive, fugly, bricks.

In any case I like the form factor, and maybe I am one of the few that likes the simple industrial orange text.
