Yes it is interesting, and it is especially easy to tune the sound of the iCAN amp as it has a bass boost and a unique feature called 3D that boosts soundstage and detail. So I can easily adjust the sound on the fly. Maybe with that I can adjust the flavor enough to be happy with just one headphone or the other. More about this when I put up my review of the iCAN today or tomorrow. But it is also clear that the Tera is a big part of what is making it sound so great. The Tera is the main ingredient and the iCAN is a way to add a nice variety of flavorings.

I think I am liking the outer most output when feeding the iCAN amp. This might be because it is a slightly cleaner signal, if the conjecture that there is crossfeed applied to the center output. And of course the iCAN has its own crossfeed circuit, so maybe the two do not play together well.

Has anyone else noticed a preference for which output on the Tera works best when feeding an external amp.

Nice thing about the Tera is when I settle down and just listen the sound is always great, no matter what phones or setup I am using. I am listening again right now with the modded Porta Pros and I almost could just forget about the pursuit of audiophilia and listen to these for the rest of my life.

Well....almost rolleyes.gif

I almost always use the center output for listening direct and also use the outer output when using my Tera as a source for my other amps.

The modded PortaPro's sound really good with an additional 75 ohms added to each side. It's a very nice additional option to the mods.

I used to have a little 75 ohm headphone plug to change my ER4S to ER4P (or maybe it was the other way around). Would something like that work? I might be able to find that plug if I go looking for it.

And thanks for the perspective on the outputs. That is where I seemed to be ending up also. It seems even more important when using the soundstage boost on the iCAN amp.

Yup, that's exactly what HiFlight was talking about smile.gif

Hi HiFlight,

Please share how could you add 75ohms to the output.

Cheers

I re-terminate the plug end with a new 1/8" plug and incorporate the added resistors into the plug shell. Using an ER4 P/S type adapter will work just fine, but incorporating the resistance into the plug itself is a bit more elegant solution, as it does not add any additional length or bulk to the plug end of the headphones.

Nice! So when will you get it? I'll wait for your review on how it pairs with the SE5 wink_face.gif. If it a match made in heaven, I'll order the Tera directly.
