Wayne is a rare bird. And, I for one am thankful for that.
While I missed the opportunity to purchase one of his prior creations, he very graciously
agreed to build me a set of modified headphones incorporating all he'd learned to date about the
Fostex.
Frankly, I was blown away by the generosity of his offer.
He was considerate and thoughtful throughout the process, keeping me informed about what was happening when, what parts he was considering and why as well as asking for my input consistently.
He was detailed, consistent in communication and thorough. He gave great attention to each detail treating each matter like he was building it for himself. Obviously, he's an artisan with a good heart and genuine concern for the music and the finished product. He's in it for “the love of the game.” A rarity by any measure.
Wayne, thank you for your initial offer and all the effort you put into this project.
As for the sound...
Fantastic. I waited to write this because I was wondering how to explain what I heard. I'm still not sure what to write. Paramount, I hear immediacy, clarity and speed. There's no fuzz, no hash, no bloat, no dominating frequency. I recall hearing details I'd not heard before. While not accustomed to focusing on the sound of horns (brass), I was really struck by how brass sounded so much more “real.” It was more detailed, with greater high end clarity, yet LESS harsh than anything I've heard before. To achieve
“more” high end detail with no glare, etch or harshness is a telling sign of a great finished product. Within their minor limitation of having excellent but not super deep bass, these are superb headphones.
Just great. I will be rediscovering much music.
I will write more about the headphones in a few weeks after I become even more accustomed to them.
Thank you.
This is a real gift. I feel very fortunate.
