it helped me choosing mine and I settled for a vorbis codec they were recommanding.

I was talking about convenience because his apple products only reads apple files (or mp3) hence it is more convenient to use them.

Again, iTunes will rip to and play from 5 different file types, only one of which is an Apple product.  In the list below, the first 4 are non-Apple, the last one is obvious.  

 

AAC

AIFF

WAV

MP3

Apple Lossless

ALAC is open source too now.

ALAC seems to make the most sense to me for 16/44. Exact Audio Copy (EAC) will make very accurate rips and encode to ALAC via refalac.  iTouch will play those directly, and as noted earlier, iTunes will autocompress to AAC of your choice on sync if you want.

I started out using FLAC and then realized they were not iTunes friendly.  triportsad.gif
