Edit: I looked at that set of RCA cables when I purchased my M&M stack, some reviews on amazon said they are cheaply made and fit too tight in the RCA plugs so I bought the PYST cables to play it safe.

Also steer clear of the mediabridge USB A to B cable as if I run the cable underneath my laptop or over my phone I get a terrible amount of noise until I move the cable, they are subpar, the B end also sticks out quite a bit from the DAC usb input so it's not secure and wobbles all over.

I'll probably purchase the PYST USB cable, but never got an answer of whether there were ferrite chokes on them or if it makes a difference in high noise environments or not...

Edit 2: I bought the cable, damn is shipping a killer...

On the shipping… Agreed…

This is the PYST USB (should help to give a picture for those wondering) cable I received. http://www.straightwire.com/digital-USB.html Can't find it anywhere else for under 42 usd, good quality cable it feels pretty rugged and is definitely worth the extra little bit over a monoprice or cheap usb cable.

Thanks for the tip on the cable. Does it have any ferrite cores on it?

I honestly can't say if it does or not. The connectors are awfully long so there may be some sort of ferrite core inside the connector. I am not ready to cut the cable open to confirm it or not haha.

So is the cable literally a straightwire branded cable or is it the same design with schitt/pyst on it?

Exactly as pictured above. It came in a bag with a sticker that said it was a PYST usb cable :P I'd call it a good value regardless of branding/looks (i think the cable looks ugly)

Haha sounds good. I might pick up one and some clip on ferrite cores.

Surprised me with the Modi today XD Brought it with her in a little victorias secret bag... so when she whipped out the Modi from the bag, that caught me way off guard.

Anyways, quick shiny pics from my phone:

Sounds freaking amazing. Not sure how to describe the differences but the biggest thing is: my ears felt fatigued real easily using just my soundcard + Magni before. But now after hours of listening I still dont feel the same fatigue I felt before. That alone makes the Modi worth it.

Got it set up with DIY pure solid silver interconnects, basic USB cable, and EqualizerAPO on my computer. Sounds just great.

Love the cables, is there any chance you have got a guide somewhere of how to make them?

I assume you are using 2 strands of cable for each connection within the RCA. 2 Strands for ground and 2 strands for signal?

Thanks

Thanks! :D

But sorry, I don't have any guides for this.

You are correct though, its 2 strands for ground and 2 strands for signal.

I soldered one end first, then I did a 4 strand braid until I got to the other end.

I used heat shrink on both ends to hold the braid together so I could solder it without messing up.

All the material came from Qables.

Oh and the 4 strand braid is the same kind girls use for their hair lmao, its pretty standard. I googled it and found a bunch of diagrams on how to do it.

Many have stated that the Magni/Modi combo are slightly bright.  Is it the Magni that is bright or the Modi that is bright, or both?

Has anyone tried using the Modi with a USB power regulator (such as the iFi iUSB)?

If so, which one? And how noticeable was the improvement?

LOL 100% sure you wont hear any difference at all from a device like that.

Are you saying that USB power supply units are a bluff? :)

Or will it be more noticeable in higher end DACs?
