The E17 does a decent job. It depends on how loud you listen. Some could listen to the Q701 with E17 at 6dB gain at half volume while I perosonally needed 12dB gain with 3/4 volume.
I don't really have a preference currently of Cirrus Logic DAC or Wolfson DAC with the Q701's. I have a Dual WM8741 flagship as well as the single WM8740 as well as a variety of Cirrus Logic DAC's be it the CS4344 or unmarked but well received CS in my iPhones and iPod's. I'll be getting the CS4398 flagship later this month.
So yeah, no real preference from me.
