Wow, at that price, I might just buy it, even though I don't have an electrostatic amp yet.

Awful news as I now have the means to afford it and a decent amp pairing. :( Here's hoping it doesn't sound as good as I remember it to in the Austin meet this following week.

Rrrrr... It is about a 1000 dollars less than what I paid! It looks pretty cheap at that (still) high price, doesn't it?

Don't forget about the paypal fees + possible import taxes.  Still, that's around 3800-3900 USD, which is still cheaper than what I paid for a used pair recently.  triportsad.gif

I've taken the plunge and bought it. Now, I need an amp...I'll focus on that next.

I'm using the SRM-717 with mine and the combo sounds really really good.

Well now you gotta make the meet in March 2nd. Gonna be your only chance to hear an LL and a BHSE in the same room. :)

purk, congratulations! You've been very wise and took your time before taking the plunge, and glad you're enjoying the 009 ;)

I'd be great to get a more detailed analysis from a senior member like yourself, who's rather partial about gear it seem and have a tiny bit of experience with high end rigs... For instance, where do you stand on what some have referred as artificial sense of detail / borderline bright, a feeling I don't share with my current rig but clearly several high profile members - typically O2mk1 owners - have this opinion (ASR, spritzer, ...).

cheers,

arnaud

I actually love the sonic traits of the SR009, but I can see that others may think of them as a tad bright, but this may not be the faults of the SR009 but rather the setup.  It is all preference really, heck, I love my Qualia and I don't mind its treble one bit.

I had a pleasure of listening to the SR009 out of the DIY T2 in Thailand (many thanks to Kiertijai & Chinsettawong) and thought the world of it - perhaps my favorite headphones experience to date.  I share your thoughts on the SR009 that it is a lot easier to drive than the SR007.   I'm listening to them out of the SRM-717 and think the combo is excellent sounding, albeit a step or two down from SR009 out of T2. The SR007 never have the same affect on me out of the SRM717 though and I rarely want to listen to the pairing unlike the SR009 + SRM-717 combo.  With that said, I stiill believe that the SR007 will need something like the BHSE or T2 to sound its best.  Still at this level, it maybe just a matter of preference.  Heck, Spritzer never seem to like the HE90 which I happen to really like.  wink_face.gif

I can't wait to hear the OII out of BHSE in couple of months when Justin comes down for a big Atlanta Meet in May.

What source(s) do you use? I'm considering that amp, I'll have to see.

I still don't think I'll be able to go, but I will try.

I'm using the Exemplar Denon 5910 as my source.  I need to check the combo out of my W4S DAC2.  The 717 pairs great with the SR009; however, I think the SR009 has more room to improve with better amps.  Still, the combo is very very good for the price.

I've only heard the SR-009 paired with the Liquid Lightning, and it sounded amazing, so I don't really have anything else to compare it to. Morbid is right, I do need to hear the BHSE, as well as other amps.

I own both O2 mk1,009 and heard many stax cans. I've also heard orpheus and Sony R10 in quiet home environment.

009 uses silverplated copper. No wonder why some picks up the "artificial sense of detail / borderline bright'

009 is not lambda pro/sig bright -no, it has a metallic haze that sounds artifact bright.

I will recable my 009 to copper cable, silverplated copper side effects is a nono 4 me.

I know they're completely different beasts, but how would you compare the 009 to the R10s? I've been contemplating selling my R10s/SDS-XLR for a while and buying a 009+amp because of the combination of price and longevity concerns (it petrifies me to have an OOP headphone/amp as my main setup).

I'd like to hear how you get on with that swap. I.e. to know how much the cable is contributing to the brightness?

FWIW, I don't think that silver, or silver plate, necessarily has to give a brighter sound than copper - witness Siltech's silver/gold alloys which are generally pretty neutral.

It seems too good to be true that just a cable swap would cure the 009 of the brightness that some (not all) head-fiers attribute to these phones. But if that does indeed work, then I'd be putting the 009's back on my buying list.
