Very very interesting and cool. I don't know if this is the right place to post this, but it seemed the most logical to me.

Discuss.

In terms of the basic melody of the song, yes. But the question is, whether we'll notice it or not. At most we keep track of what, 40-50 yrs of music?

Some possibilities I can think of:

Old music is lost to obscurity, recycled, comes back as new.

Old music that's still famous is remixed/sampled and comes back as new (pretty common).

New music is made that coincidentally has the same melody as some old obscure tune.

Is it possible to run out of ways to put words together into stories?

According to set theory: no.

According to the information potential of the present universe: yes.

edit - now having watched the video it seems like the whole thing was a sort of introduction to the concept of a strange attractor. Nice links in the description.

Yeah, the way it seems is that whether there is or isn't a limited amount music that could be made, it seems like it doesnt even matter, because we gravitate to a certain sound or patterns in music. So we have more room that we need or could possibly use. So, while the amount is finite, it really doesn't matter.

Is this really a concern? Even if I solely listened to music the rest of my life and did nothing else, I doubt I'd even come close to listening to everything I intended to listen to.
