Looking to buy new headphones- I am a noob though!

Hi All,

First time post, long time reader-

I have done research but everything sounds good and I just wish some people who actually know what they are talking about could take the guesswork out of it for me!

I am looking to spend around 150-200$.

Essentially its for music, movies and gaming. I have a big head and big ears, so comfort is a high priority. The most important feature in terms of audio is sound clarity and quality. Dont really care about powerful bass. Below are the headphones I am chosing from.

Thanks for your help!!!

  • Sennheiser HD-598 (Burl Wood)
  • Audio-Technica ATH-M50s
  • V-MODA Crossfade LP
  • Ultrasone PRO 550

If it's between these, I'd go with the M50's. They're cheap ATM and they've got a long cord so you can plug it into whatever movie or game source you have at home. Despite this long cord, they're reasonably portable as well.

Do you want closed or open? I'm guess you want over ear vs on ear.

I am thinking to get over-ear though for maximum comfort

I think it could be why I am leaning to the 598's - they look so nice too!

598's no question.

That's double the price of his budget.

Probably the HD598 if sheer comfort and SQ is your game. You won't be disappointed!

Seems like you settled on the 598's? I can say from experience they're quite impressive.

By the way, what's the rest of your setup like?
