Best Headphones For Rock and Jazz for Under 300

Hello all, I was wondering if you guys would help me out with this dilemma. I want to upgrade from my DT 770 Pro's, They are great. but I was looking for something with some more clarity. I was looking at the Q 701, and possibly an HD 580, but I don't have any experience with either. I will be pairing it with an O2 Dac+amp. Also, I mostly listen to Rush, Led Zeppelin, and The Who. And my preferences for jazz are hard bop, acid (Bitches Brew), and some free jazz (later Coltrane stuff). Thanks!

Can vouch for the HD580 with Jazz (most of your choices mesh with what I usually listen to, so makes it even easier to relate). Signature is pretty much perfect for that stuff. Good for Rock as well, though not outstanding, but good nevertheless.

How do the He 300's compare to the 400's? I was considering the 400's for Christmas, but are they really worth the extra 250 over the 300's?

I was going to recommend the AKGs for their sound clarity but found an interesting comparison thread here = http://www.head-fi.org/t/601605/which-akg-k701-k702-or-q701 , and it looks like the DT880 are more neutral, something I assume is better for jazz. The best would to try them before, because they might have a signature not too far from your 770, and since you want to "upgrade" it can be a little disappointing.
