ATH M50 damaged cord

Thread Starter

The cord on my ATH M50's (straight-cord version) is damaged in two places. In one place the external cord cracked, and also the external cord pulled away from the plug leaving the three wires inside exposed. In both places the interior wires inside are still intact, but I figure it is only a matter of time.

The headphones are still in warranty, but the warranty states that it excludes defects due to normal wear. Would this cord damage be considered normal wear? I haven't abused my headphones in any way, and in any case there is no evidence of any abuse.

Furthermore, how much might such a repair cost if it is not covered by the warranty? Where can I go to get it repaired? I understand AT has a repairs center but I am interested in local options (I live in central NJ).

I've sent an email to AT regarding the first question but I'd appreciate info/experiences nonetheless.

Sorry, that sounds like wear and tear.
