The HD558 respond (improve) more to a headphone amplifier then the HD518.

The HD518 is designed to work well with unamped sources.

my asus xonar dx + fiio e11 give good results with 558 hd?

O2 (Objective 2) portable headphone amplifier ($155), but just leave the AC power adapter plugged in and it functions just like a normal deck top amplifier.
