I guess AKG and V-Moda now does this too. $300 is the magic number. And to think people say Bose is so evil for selling a headphone for $150.

The only really good deals to me were the Koss Pro DJ100 ($80), K240 Studio ($99) and AKG Q701 ($235).

You know, it's quite impressive how I can attach a $80 headphone like the DJ100 up to my main setup after listening to the Q701 or HD-650 and not be disgusted. I mean it doesn't sound any worse.

The DJ100 does like 90% of what the 650 is capable of (on the same exact setup). The HD-650 is just more comfortable, has a larger soundstage and is less fatiguing.

I also once scored the HD-580 for $150. HD-580 for $150 is a steal! It even sounds better than the HD-600 (IMO). Shouldn't really count though.

The old Maxell DHP-II for $30 was once the best sounding headphones under $75 easily. Too bad it's now so hard to find. It's extremely fragile though.

This is true. Shure's been increasing their prices slowly - just a year ago, SRH 840s were ~130 USD. Now, they are ~190 USD at most retailers. It's getting to the point where it's not much of a bargain for the price anymore.

Conversely, Shure prices in Australia have been going down slowly to around US prices. SRH-840 was $265 last year, now around $200.

If the range went up to 700 bucks I'd say the HE-500 would be the best value in the under 700 category. For the $400.. maybe the DT 880 600ohm? Don't really know how much those exactly are since the price can vary. I'm actually interested to know how the 880 compares to the HE-400 tongue_smile.gif

Yes, you should wait for your pair to be created, but it's worth it ;) Though I was lucky enough to get used pair :) Controversal? That depends on the sound signature you prefer. I found Paradox slightly better than praised HE-500 in every single aspect.

In Russia, AKG K550s are available for about 150$ - I suspect, at that price it's unbeatable :)

Just curios , how come nobody has a slot for grado/alessandro up there? Doe's nobody like the sound signature? I never see anyone recommending these two headphones at all, Im just real curious as to why?

I would personally put the Alessandro MS1i in the best $100 headphone category.

It has me wondering because I just recieved the MS2i a month ago, after coming from an SR80i and I'm personnaly very happy with them, but I never heard any of these other models posted and Im wondering if I jumped the gun, and I'm missing something here!

No you are not missing anything there, the MS2i is excellent.

$700 - HE-500, not many competitions there.

Here are a few of my picks

$100 - Grado SR60

$400 - HE400

$600 - Grado PS500

Allright i know, i'm biased

The MS1 can be found for around $100 and is higher up the chain than the SR60.
