Making a custom cable for HD 598?

Is it possible to plug in a male 3.5mm to male 3.5mm and use one of these: http://www.ebay.ca/itm/2x-Gold-3-5mm-Male-to-2-5mm-Female-Audio-Stereo-Headphone-Jack-Adapter-Converter-/130701766126?pt=US_Audio_Cables_Adapters&hash=item1e6e6eadee or do some soldering and wire stripping and attaching this: http://www.alibaba.com/product-gs/500356339/2_5mm_4_pole_plug_exposed.html to a male 3.5mm to male 3.5mm to build a cable for the HD 598?

The second link (from Alibaba) is more relevant. The 3.5-male-to-2.5-female is useless.

The difficulty of making a custom cable for the 598 is that it is tough to get the housing thin enough to get into the recessed housing of the HD598. What I did was cut off the end of the stock cable and attached a 3.5-female, attaching a 3.5-to3.5 cable that way, but obviously it's not ideal.
