Looking for some jazz recommendations with exceptional sound quality?
Am enjoying Bill Evans - Complete Village Vanguard 1961 as I type. Good stuff.
Thanks so much.
Hm there's so much to recommend! If you like some smooth (and quite interesting) stuff you could listen to Pat Metheny's album Secret Story, but if you are into some more piano trios I would try the album George Duke by Christian Jacob or anything by Brad Mehldau. For big band check out Dave Holland, he's so good.
And for my favorite album of all time so far: https://itunes.apple.com/us/album/quartet/id217504187 <- definitely check that out
P.S. Its funny, Bill Evans was the first jazz pianist I listened to as well, he was my gateway drug ^.^ just thought I'd share
Great modern Jazz guitarist.
Julian Lage - "Gladwell"
Gilad Hekselman - "Words Unspoken"
Lage Lund - "Standards"
Jonathan Kreisberg - "Shadowless"
Kurt Rosenwinkel - "Our Secret World"
Adam Rogers - "Sight"
Mike Moreno - "Between the Lines"
That should keep you busy for the guitar lead instrumentals.
If you like Evans "Complete Village Vanguard" recordings, I'd highly recommend his six-disc "Turn Out the Stars - The Final Village Vanguard Sessions" This is a recording date from 1980, just months before his death. It's still Bill Evans, but he is more much forceful and lyrical on the piano. I really like Scott LaFaro on Evans earlier recordings, but on "Turn Out the Stars," Marc Johnson's bass playing is top notch!
For some modern piano trio, checkout:
Michel Camilo - Spirit of the Moment
Gerald Clayton - Bond: The Paris Sessions
