If you like Evans "Complete Village Vanguard" recordings, I'd highly recommend his six-disc "Turn Out the Stars - The Final Village Vanguard Sessions" This is a recording date from 1980, just months before his death. It's still Bill Evans, but he is more much forceful and lyrical on the piano. I really like Scott LaFaro on Evans earlier recordings, but on "Turn Out the Stars," Marc Johnson's bass playing is top notch!
