Cowon J3 users, can you make Playlists with mixed Digital Formats(mp3, flac, aiff, etc.)?

Hey fellow Audiophiles, this is my Virgin Post.

Here's the situation I just bought a Cowon J3 on ebay for $105 & am currently trying to put all my music on it.  I have mostly 320kbps mp3s & flac files.  I've read some other threads about creating playlists & have wittled it down to 2 methods using winamp/m3u/msc & Windows Explorer/create playlist/mtp. Both are successful for mp3 files but when I try to put flac files into the mix they never show up in the specified playlist.

I'm using musicbee to rip flac files from CDs & am getting a weird pop up message saying these files cannot be used on device & only for storage & transport but they still play on my J3.

So my questions are:

  1. Can u make a playlist with mp3s & other file types? If so How?

  2. Am i using the right flac ripping software (musicbee)?

  3. Why doesn't cowon have simple drag & drop playlist software?

Any help is greatly appreciated, I'm willing & eager to learn.

Yes

Never heard of musicbee, not sure

It does. Go into the J3 drive when it pops up, drag your music files into the J3 "music" folder  and you're done.

You might have to play with your computer's USB connection. Settings -> Systems -> USB Connection -> MSC or MTP

The J3 by default is in MSC, you'll need to switch it over.

I made playlists before just to try it out, but enjoy my whole music library so usually have it on shuffle. When I tried out of curiosity, I found Media Monkey to be really easy to use. Do note that you have to add the music so that it exists in the J3 as well as Media Monkey before making the playlist.

J3 in MTP -> Media Monkey go into tools -> sync device -> J3, choose a playlist, right click and then send to J3.

If you check the J3 in MSC, the playlists should show up as .PLA files.

Here's a thread describing the whole thing: http://www.anythingbutipod.com/forum/showthread.php?t=56586
