Superlux never made $35 headphones that sounded better than $150 counterparts.

(cough, cough. M50. cough, cough.)

But...but... you said the MH463 was like a $200 and up headphone with those turtle pads.

If these $35 EFi-82 MTs sounds like ATH M50s then i am kinda disappointed, cuz the monoprice DJ cans for ~$20 already sound similar to the M50s. LoL

Yeah my superluxes are the only "HYPED" headphones that i got that did not WOW me whatsoever. Their built/ comfort/ sound was meh, so i am surprised that joker gave them such high ratings. They are the only cans that i regret buying, but they did teach me what a more "balanced" sound siggy was like among things....... but still. All my other "HYPE" gear lived up to their rep, but the superluxes didn't cut it for me.

$150...$200...$250...when you're in Head-Fi, it all becomes a blur anyway. xD. But yeah, I stand by my original claim. MH463s definitely do better than the Fischer Audio FA-003, and that seems to go for about $190.

Edit: It's more like a better HA-S500. Less obtrusive bass, but a similar signature. Punchy bass, and a good amount of it, but a surprisingly wide soundstage. I'll give it a few more listens before coming to conclusions, but it really shines with male vocalists.

Oh no you just didn't go there!!! S500 fanboi attack mode ON!!! LoL

Man if that is true, these random somic cans is just too crazy. I think the S500s still needs more bass, that's why i taped the bass ports on the driver disk but these somics sound really promising. Keep the impressions coming cash, oh and don't forget to burn these babies in.

CARBON NANO TUBE FTW!!! biggrin.gif

Very interesting Cash! Yes, please keep the impressions coming while I am still in the market for some open cans to supplement my S500's and Uptowns smile.gif

And if you don't mind, please link to where you got them (I found aliexpress, and they would come to $76 including shipping).

Thanks!

IMAGINE A CARBON NANOTUBE SOMIC. THE WORLD WOULD 'SPLODE!

But yep, it's a bit more of a mellow HA-S500 sound. More "refined", but less fun for EDM.

Thanks for that link. That would work out to approx $40 shipped. Sooooo tempted to click buy! But, I think I'll wait a bit for some more impressions from you. Thanks again!

Edit: actually, here's a question for you... I have until Jan 08/12 to return my Uptowns if I want to. I have really been enjoying them though, and for $50 they were a steal, so I really doubt that I will return them. But, how do the EFi82MT's compare to the Uptowns?

hmmmm these are on-ears or over-ears??? If they sound similar to the S500s then i might just go for the MH463 since they will offer a different flavor compared to the on ears/ closed back S500s. But these somics all seems so promising...................ph34r.gif

Where are you getting the pads separately from the phones?

The Uptowns are VERY nice for the price (save for that nasty channel imbalance issue). They're a bit more fun-shaped tan the EFi-82 MTs, sonically speaking. The Uptownshave a hotter treble and boomier bass. After switching between the EFis and the Uptowns, the Uptowns sounded a bit "livelier", but also sort of slow and boomy. The EFis are easier to drive, also (and don't have that wretched volume controller that does nothing but cause channel imbalance).

Over-ear, and a pretty large over-ear at that.

These are, in essence, a much more neutral version of the HA-S500. It also happens to be over-ear and have a large soundstage. So, basically, take the HA-S500s, and magically remove every gripe Head-Fi has ever had with them. Awesome.

I ordered a pair of X12 pads as well, and they shipped today beerchug.gif; also got some HPA2 pads for another can.

re: EFi82, sounds interesting biggrin.gif, it seems there are a few variations of it; looks like EFI82 Pro (black) has what looks like Denon-style pads, and the regular EFI82 (silver) and EFI82MT (red) have regular round pads. I wonder if they sound any different

Potentially. I know that I have the MT, and that the MT is the one that they currently sell. Whether that was because the Pro was going to rip the MH463 to shreds, or because it was a genuine improvement, I don't know.

What I found the most interesting was how sensitive they were. 97 db sensitivity and 64 Ohm impedance usually doesn't add up to things getting too loud when the Clip+ goes past halfway. But I digress. Despite its large size, the MT's short cable (it comes with an extender) and closed design make it a solid portable can.
