Colorfly C3 Appreciation and Discussion Thread - Page 66

Spartan, welcome to the army of c3 lovers then :-)))

I've been having freezes while running off my 32gb card in shuffle mode.  A song will finish, and no new song starts up.  I'd have to pop out the card and reinsert it to get things going again.  My best guess is some of the FLACs I'm using are too high a bit rate (90% of what I have is ripped from my own discs, but some.... basshead.gif  ).  So I just ran a folder of assorted songs through xAct (using a Mac) and converted to WAV.  Put the folder back on my card and went for a walk.  No freezes.  I'm assuming bit rate, although I wouldn't get a "hissing" track, just a lockup.  Anyway, just posting in case anyone else is having a similar issue.

Good to know an exact cause. I have had a few albums start slower than normal for tracks myself. Nothing major though.

Does the colorfly only have a headphone out?  I keep seeing it amped.   so i thought it had a line out but couldnt find the info anywhere.

It has a headphone out, but does not have a line out.

only headphone out which you will use as line out. C3 is slim on specs, it's a spartan player wink_face.gif

What brand and type of the memory card is good for c3?

any card that works :-)

seriously, i am pretty conservative and use only SanDisk cards (not only with players but also with photo and else). price difference between SanDisk and rest does not justify risk taking.

Yep, dont skimp on the cheap cards, there are a lot of fakes all over eBay which is when things really frustrating, I spent a whole day trying to work out why the card wouldnt accept any file type.  Class 4 is fine, although I use class 10 as the transfer speed from my Mac to the card is a bit faster.

Class 10 Lexar here as well, and for the same reason... Nice and quick!

Any card from a known brand (that isn't a fake) should work. I tend to stick with SanDisk since I know that their cards are quite nice. (I use their cards in everything from my cameras, to my phone, to this little player. No problems.)

Here's a puzzler...

I contacted Colorfly about the high-pitched noise between tracks on the C3 and got two completely different responses....

1. From Lily at Colorfly:

Hello,

This time, we can exchange a new one for you. you can ship it back to us. the problem has been solved. Thanks for your help. you can not solve problem, just our engineer can do it.

THANKS

LILY

2. From Thomas at Colorfly:

Hope that our R&D team will find a solution with the next firmware update, the ticks between the song are a result of non interpretable ID tags. The DAC can’t read and make a indefinable small noise. When you use converting software like Foobar2000 or WAVELAB7 or XRECORD, please use the filter function to delete ID tags. There are also some function available to rename the music file from CD track01 into the name of song automatically or you can rename individual at file manager.

Best regards

Thomas

Don't really know what else to do now. Has anyone else sent their C3 back and had a replacement that fixes the noise between tracks?

I would say that if you haven't bought it from Colorfly  themselves you'd probably never see it again... Or spend almost the same price as the unit in shipping / return shipping when they ship it back to you unfixed as an unauthorized version.

YMMV but this is just my 2 Cents.

Lol...my thoughts too. They did offer to replace it even though I had gone through an unauthorised dealer, but like you say the shipping will cost and there are no guarantees :-)
