Colorfly C3 Appreciation and Discussion Thread - Page 136

I bought a couple of 64's and they worked/work fine just taking music files (FLAC or WAV) and dragging them onto the mounted window on my Mac's desktop.  Could it be the way you are working with the card?  Are you plugging the C3 in to your computer directly or through a hub using a USB cord and loading up the card or are you using a card reader that is plugged into the computer?  Since so many of us use 64's, I think it's more likely an issue either with how you are doing it or maybe that you need to reload the C3 firmware.

Oh, and how are you getting the files, how large are they, what format, etc?

I put one album on a Sony 64gb memory card and my C3 read "no file". I immediately put it in my dx50 and it played flawlessly. I then put it in my Studio 3rd anniversary and it also read "no file". I have read that it has to be formatted as a bootible device... what exactly does this entail??

Have you formatted the card to FAT32? If you leave it as the default exFAT, most DAP won't read it. You can't do it using Windows internal formatter, but there are plenty of free software online if you search around.

Yup. I used partition wizard to get it to fat32, 64k

Also, I couldn't use a usb port on my windows 7 laptop, but instead had to use the sd card slot.

Something rather magical happens when you plug Shure SHR440 into the little Colorfly for some reason. I was expecting nothing special though I'm completely surprised what I'm hearing. Any 440 owners out there with C3 on hand give it a try.

I have formatted it. As a matter of fact

My latest C3 rig. Tralucent T1.

The soundstage is pretty wide. It actually sounds pretty good.

How does it compare to the BH2/C3 pairing?

Tighter bass, wider staging, better control, it sounds smoother than I remember BH combo but detail and clarity pushes through easily. To put the stage width into perspective I was laying down earlier listening to some ambient tracks, the left and right channels were cueing about 2 inches outwards from my ears, really wide, strange sensation. That was with the Dunu DN -1000 hybrid.

The T1 is actually performing better now, we replaced the faulty battery just today, it has a lot more snap and authority. Sounds cleaner, more airy. The battery in it before hand was going flat just sitting there for a few days, we had the amp tested with another T1, switching dud battery for a new one made all the difference.

I didn't notice any problem except for one occasion where there was distortion. I thought it was my dap. But then most of the time the t1 was fully/newly charged when I was using it. I guess I heard the distortion when the battery was running low.

The battery in T1 before hand was weak, there was something wrong with it, which is logged in the T1 thread. I sent the amp to Loquah to test beside his T1 (where he heard differences) so we replaced the battery for a fresh one and brought the performance back up to scratch.

it all starts here: http://www.head-fi.org/t/634235/tralucent-t1-appreciation-thread-post-your-experiences-and-questions-here/465#post_10281651

We've been quite busy. ;)

Recently bought a Colorfly C3 from a Head-Fi user.... Color me impressed (pun booooooooooo). Listening to Prince's "Black Sweat" left me walking around with a huge grin on my face. Good lord.

Congratulations!

The C3 is indeed a great sounding dap and it will serve you well as long as you accept the limitations in its UI.

Have fun!
