Are there no portable on/over ears that can compete with IEMs in the $250-500 range?

It seems that all the portable headphones in this range are outclassed by IEMs by UE, Shure, Westone, Heir, so on.  It doesn't make sense since pound for pound it should be cheaper to make a larger set of cans( more room to work with)

I've been looking at everything from the new MDR 1Rs, to AKG K550, Beyer Custom One's, Sennheiser's offerings, and no one seems to think they have outclass IEMs such as Shure 530s, or similar IEMs

So basically are there any closed headphones that are portable and competitive enough to consider against mid-fi/hi-fi IEMs?

Bump?  Is this question too elusive?
