Fantastic year. Albums that spring to mind right off the bat are:

 

The Cure: Disintegration

Galaxie 500: On Fire

Stan Getz and Joao Gilberto: Getz/Gilberto

Godflesh: Streetcleaner

Pixies: Doolittle

Stone Stone Roses: S/T

 

If pressed I'd probably have to go with Doolittle as being my favorite.
