Can anyone who's spent time with both headphones comment on which headphone they would prefer with electronic music? (electronica, drum and bass, dubstep)

That's my opinion...hd650 is more bright, less detailed, and not as good on the treble and mid range.

Whoa, that must have been a pretty old post you quoted! I've owned them both for a while now...really love them both too :beerchug:

Quality wise which headphone is better HE400 or HD650?

Quality wise? You mean build or sound? The HD650 is legendary while the HE400 is highly respected. Both are supposed to be great with different sound signatures. Depends what kind of sound you want. HD650 for a more smooth and HE400 for a more energetic sound.

Build.

I didn't have a problem with the HD650 with the time I had it but I like the general feel to the HE-400's build quality better.  The gimbals are solid metal, while the cups are very rigid.  HD650 comes off as very plasticy feeling.

Which of the two is better suited to jazz (mostly piano trios and female voices)? Many thanks!

I agree 100% Jazz sounds excellent on the HE-400. But female vocals will always sound better on HD 650, especially Jazz/Soul vocalists. As for piano trios...most Jazz I listen to isn't that piano heavy, so I guess for me it's a toss up.

Eh, just get both headphones and be done with it.

that's funny, because I own the hd650, and the he-400, and I personally love how the saxophone, piano, and vocals sound on the he-400. I think the sound is just more detailed! IMO....

I'm just addicted to the rich, silky smooth way the HD 650 presents vocals. Especially female vocals. Both cans compliment each other very well.

To be honest? I couldn't disagree with you on that smily_headphones1.gif

hahaha they are obviously both stellar headphones & you can't go wrong w/ either. imma total he400 fanboyy tho

if i had to throw a dig against the he400 is that they can sound silibant for female vocals on certain recordings, but that is more the fault of the source. so i wouldn't be able to say female vocals = he400 even i love my he400s. forgiving-ness is sometimes an important factor to consider.

i would think it may be better to get the hd600 to complement the he400 than the hd650. (impo)
