I am asking to see other peoples opinion's. I am getting some headphones for someone for christmas. I want them to be "Just right". The person is very picky. So im pretending to be that person in that point of view. :) i own both headphones

Would you say the 600 vs the 650 would be dark, but a tat more energetic, then? (not to stray from the thread topic too much).

Though it sounds to me, the HE 400 may tend to be a better pick for electronic music based on the way you describe the nature of their sound...

The HD600 has more present treble, and less mid-bass hump (both are slight, but the treble is much more apparent) compared to the HD650. They're just two flavors. One warm neutral. One dark and even warmer. Energy, well, that depends on what you're referring to. Both can be energetic headphones with a good match of an amplifier. It again comes down to what you want to hear more of.

Very best,

I don't think anyone can tell the OP which headphone is better.more addictive, has the wow factor, etc.

My preferences are more toward the HD650's. Even though the HE-400 has better bass and details. HD650's enjoyment factor is off the charts.

This turned out to be the case for me also. But hey, that's just one man's opinion. biggrin.gif

The HE-400, easily, for me.

But I found the HD650 to be one of the most boring headphones ever. I prefer the HD600/HD580.

It comes down to what you want to hear. Do you want a little sparkle in the treble? A little sugar on top of your wubble? Want some meaty sub-bass? Very fast speed so there's separation even in the most complex and fast moments? Then the HE-400 is for you. Or, if you want it to be smooth, relaxed, less sparkle, darker, more mellow, laid back, less meaty sub-bass, but at least a little warmth in the mid-bass, then the HD650 would be appropriate. It comes down to whether you want something more aggressive, bright and fast, or something more laid back and mellow.

Very best,

This sums it up quite well. Your question has been answered.

How special is this person to you?

Cause I say buy both for them ;)

I only listed to the he-400 for about a minute at a July meet and I can attest that it was breathtaking with edm. Very addicting for electronic, it left the greatest impression on me along with the sr009s of course.

very :), it was between the HIfiman He-400, He-500 or the 650. But i don't think i have anything well to complement the he-500 other than my Hisound 3rd Anniversary Player

Are the amping requirements equal for both?  I have the 650s and can tell you they scale very well.  How about the 400s?

I say overall they're both about equally as hard to amp.  HD650 likes more voltage.  HE-400 likes more wattage.

You mean current?  Or wattage..

By wattage I mean it likes more mW.

I understand what you mean perfectly, but that may misunderstood by many. In my experience the he400 gets to about 95% of it's potential MUCH less expensively than the hd650. Hope that makes sense.
