Best Album of 1993

I have two from 1993 that take me down a great memory lane.  Best of '93?  Not sure, but for me, they were great.

Smashing Pumpkins' Siamese Dream and Primus' Pork Soda.  If I could only choose one, I'd ask if I could split those two albums in half to create one super album.  I was 18 and just bought my first car and rocked out to both on my way to college.

I have 30 of the albums on the list.

My tops for that year is easily Tool's Undertow. Probably still my favorite Tool album. Lots of good stuff this year though...

Depeche Mode - Songs of Faith and Devotion

Smashing Pumpkins - Siamese Dream

Dark Tranquility - Skydancer

Dead Can Dance - Into the Labyrinth

KMFDM - Angst

10,000 Maniacs - MTV Unplugged

Wu-Tang - Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers)

All good. Probably my top 3 are Tool, Smashing Pumpkins, and Dead Can Dance.

I pretty much only listened to my original Siamese Dream record yesterday between Formula 1 and UFC stuff.  Before I went to bed I ordered the reissue on vinyl.  Really good stuff.  Typical story too,

Quote:
The immense pressure to succeed intensified an already problematic situation: drummer Jimmy Chamberlin was undergoing an increasingly severe addiction to heroin, guitarist James Iha and bassist D'arcy Wretzky had recently ended their romantic relationship and Corgan, aside from battles with weight gain and suicidal depression,[6] was suffering from his worst-ever bout of writer's block.

Guess that what makes good music!

I remember when that Cypress Hill came out, everyone was like, "Meh, not as good as the first one."  Oh yeah, and Wu-Tang.  Classic.

So I made a short list of what I think are the best albums from 1993:

Swervedriver - Mezcal Head

Nirvana - In Utero

Earth - Earth 2

Dinosaur Jr. - Where You Been?

Tool - Undertow

Primus - Pork Soda

Slowdive - Souvlaki

Fugazi - In On The Kill Taker

Mazzy Star - So Tonight That I Might See

Black Moon - Enta Da Stage

Wu-Tang - 36 Chambers

It's pretty tough to decide which is the best, all solid albums, so the only way for me to label one as the best, is to go for the one I still listen to the most, which makes the winner:

Great album, solid start to finish.  Saw them on their reunion tour earlier this year, still amazing.

Good choices so far. Definitely an awesome year for music, I was 17. My top two hands down were:

Tool - Undertow

The Smashing Pumpkins - Siamese Dream

A short list of other greats from 1993 that I didn't hear until a bit later:

Fugazi - In on the Kill Taker

A Tribe Called Quest - Midnight Marauders

Melvins - Houdini

Swirlies - Blonder Tongue Audio Baton

There's at least another two dozen great albums from this year - that I was into at the time or learned about later.

A great one, I saw them on that tour. I hardly ever (ok never) listen to them anymore though.
