so it would be okay, but not optimal?
do you mean something like this?
FiiO L9 L-Shaped Line Out Dock (LOD) Cable For iPod and iPhone

If you don't use a LOD, you will effectively be double amping your headphones, which provides sub-par results.

And yes, a Fiio L3 or L9 work just fine.

Thread Starter
so i ended up getting the HFi 780 as suggested, should arrive sometime next week hopefully
and if im up for it, ill pick up the E11/L9 sometime soon too

for starter headphones im sure these will do great
not like i plan to upgrade from these for a while anyway

looking at the pictures it looks straight forward ipod to L9 to amp to 780
how will the setup work on the PC? do i plug it directly to the headphone jack on the back?

good choice on a first pair, that was my first pair too. and i dont plan on selling them at all smily_headphones1.gif with your computer you can plug it into the back, FiiO give you a 3.5mm to 3.5mm jack, u can use that.

3.5mm-3.5mm cable between the output jack on your PC and the E11 input jack, then plug the HFI-780 to the E11 output jack.

My advise is for you to get your setup and enjoy listening to it, only getting back here if you actually have any issues or doubts related to your gear, otherwise you might be struck with "upgraditis"...

i use ATH-M50, it is great, bacause it is low impedence but you may still need amp like fiio.

Ive been looking at a few threads here and there, first time posting.

I've just been using stock ipod earbuds and razor moray? earbuds, I have a Corsair HS1 PC headset at home also.

Im looking for something dedicated to my music (ipod touch4, or PC)

I listen to a variety of stuff, rap, techno, dubstep, r/b, classical

I just need some decent noob starter headphones, something a step up from basic earbuds

Ive looked around the forums and limited my choices down to several

Shure840, ATH-M50, AKG K701/702, Beyer-DT770, Senn HD-598

at this point, i think (from what ive read), for all-round quality Shures are the way the go?

Amp is to come later on once ive set into the headset (probably FiiO E7 or E11?)

advice?

Thanks

(please try to keep lingo noob friendly, im still learning) =]

I'd check out these headphones when they come out. They look pretty cool and apparently sound pretty good for a mid-fi phone. Shouldn't be too much when they get released, probably around your price range. wink_face.gif

Should reproduce all your listed genres awesomely. wink.gif

Im pretty sure those abyss headphones were reviewed and basically they're a $4500 cable attached to a $300 can and they're going to charge $5k for them.  Could be wrong though.
