That would be great for Tyll to do a youtube on them.

These seem to have great sound at a good price... it's just unfortunate that they're a bit too big for portable use, even if they fold flat. Saying they're better than the UM3X really makes me want to like it, but these things just seem too huge.

 

The Sony MDR-1R seems rather similar too -- maybe that'll suit me better.

Any word on how these compare to  the Ultrasone 580s??

The K167 sound pretty dull to me out-of-box (Recessed) NOT to say they are bad, just not as bright pre-burn as noted in this thread, then again Im not going to go and try to ruin the drivers since they are weakest before burn in by turning it up high... Anyone have a link to good pink noise for burn-in :P also: On the E11 whats best settings anyone found? Im Using High Gain + 1 for EQ.

Out of curiosity. I listen to a lot of rock and roll and I was wondering if someone could tell me if these things would beat the AKG Q701s?

 

Hey, Simon.  Greetings.  I'd expect that if the K167s do meet your expectations, the you'd probably still want to keep the Fostex T50RPs, depending on which mod you are running.  If it's a good mod, then the Fostex are probably best to hang onto for being a "budget" giant killer.  I can't comment on the DT1350, as I have not owned the pair and I think we've all had a pair of Grado's in the collection at one point or other.  The Grados draw us in and we get connected to headphones.  Then, we want more - more accurate high frequencies, better bass, etc. - and, that leads us on a journey of upgrade-itis.  But, with the K167, an amp is surely in order, but one doesn't need to buy something too beefy to keep up with the demands - just enough to supply some decent current.

 

 

I was  hoping you'd say that.  I have some craft felt that I'm going to cut some circles out of.  I'll use the circles inside of the K167 until the headphones properly break in - and, I don't want the extra detail in the sound to affect my view of them until the bass gets up to speed via a proper break-in.

 

I just received my shipping notice a few hours ago for a delivery tomorrow morning.  The headphones are just 100 miles away, or at least that is the point where they were placed into the hands of FedEx.  Good times.  Good times.

Hmm, not liking what I am reading there Lilly....
Mine won't be here until Wed. Not sure what I will burn them in with? Never don't it really. I just plugged my K81 DJ to the computer and played my itunes library fairly loudly for 2 days.

+1, im also curious if its worth to get these or keep my 580's for my electronic listening

Being that I've had two pair of HD-580s that I picked up in that past year, then sold them off after a few months of ownership due to have too many headphones, I always regret selling them.  If you can, wait until you have a moment to hear the K167s in person.  Going through the order process, the burn-in process, and potential shipping costs involved if  you don't like what you hear can be a major pain.  I don't want to interject too much judgement on the K167, which I will not hear for another 13 hours or so, but I'd be willing to wager a guess that their signature would be a bit different than the HD-580 headphones, which are "polite" headphones.

 

When you get the K167;s please compare them to the 580s ;)
