I am working on some nice new toys for my ears. Just built a CMOYBB, I built the Interconnect cable for the ALO dock connector with a female connector, using their SX cabling and Switchcraft 3.5mm connectors, and also for a side project, building a preamp/amp/speaker setup for my Ukulele, modular and tiny. So cool.
So I have some Grado 60's that I have already split the "plastic" cans on, as the protective tubing cracked and killed the left channel. Popped the cans, thank you for the instructions, and re-soldered the cables, cleaned up the outside casing, and all was well. So now 3 other outside tubing cracks appeared. Drat.
So after reading the endless pages of Grado 60 mod's I am going to re-cable these really nice sounding headphones. However I am really at a crossroad as to cables to use there are these choices I have...
I am looking to get the best for the cost, but not crazy expensive...
Mogami 4 wire microphone cable, can be bought local, but so plain Jane
Some Mil Spec 22 g Silver Coated Copper Wire on Ebay
This cable is 19 strands of 34g, silver coated, ETFE Tefzel Insulation, I am wary as this may be stiff, but 50' for $10 dollars, a serious good deal
I remember seeing some silver coated cryo treated cable at I think was $10 for 5' with teflon coating form a LOD maker from California that looked promising, but his name escapes me.
Solid silver seems to be in the crazy expensive arena
ALO at $30 for 5 feet, again crazy Expensive, but I sill have 4' left from my last build, so nice looking
I do posses some Cardas Eutectic solder so silver is doable.
Yes I will be doing some more mods on these soon, but I have this desire for an Electric Uke that is calling my name.....With maybe a whammy bar...
