Did I make out like a bandit? Rotel RDV-1040

I just picked up a rotel RDV-1040

Its a cd/dvd player, it has rack mounts on it (which I can take off) - My dad had it from a ~10 year old home theater set up he spent some $$$ on when he moved into a new house. He recently replaced it with a blu-ray player, and while at his house - I saw it sitting in the corner in a basement. He gave it to me because "he wasnt using it"

How well would this work as a dedicated CD source? I need to find a power cable for it (easy) so I havent tried it yet. He said he spent ~$500 for it originally, but I dont know if the $$$ was put towards the dvd portion of it or if it actually works well audio wise.

thanks!

It's Rotel and it's free, so personally use it and just save more of your money and then blow it on a really good CDP/server later on.
