I cannot tell you how many threads on Head-Fi I have looked at, but I just can't decide which headphones to get.

 

I mainly listen to drum & bass, electro, house, dubstep, and breakcore. Mainly as in 99% of the time.

 

I do want tight bass, but if I don't get clarity in the mids and highs with it, I would rather have less bass to make up for that.

 

My main question here is, are the better mids and highs worth the reduced bass amount on the 780?

The hfi-580 and hfi-780 are both very bright so you may have to eq them to enjoy dubstep, especially with all the highpitched sounds. I use the hardware eq on the Fiio e17 (an audiophile gem). Have you considered the V-moda Lp2 or M-100? They both have that visceral bass you're looking for. There is also the AiAiAi TMA-1, they're great for EDM, but not much else. There is also the Audiotechnica ath-pro700mkII, bass lords but several people find them uncomfortable.
