Meier Audio Daccord - Page 33

I think neutral gear like Jans stack poses quite a problem for a reviewer: in my experience the things that I have for a long time, i.e. really enjoy, tend to miss the initial flashy effect. As Jan said above you need time to appreciate them, but they'll stay with you for longer than the things that impress you on first sight. Most reviewers have neither time nor inclination to keep gear for long enough to honor that effect I guess: their editor is waiting, the publication has to meet a deadline etc.

Some might be able to mitigate that due to more experience, i.e. knowing about that effect and trying to pre-calculate it, comparing to other equipment that already stood the test of time, ...

Although maybe lots of fun at first hearing they’re often not well suited for long-term use because they always superimpose their own character on the sound. Sometimes in a nice way, but sometimes also in a negative way. Equipment that simply gets out of the way and doesn’t add anything to the recording and doesn’t leave anything out to my ears is much more satisfying in the long run. That’s how I personally like it and that’s how I design my products.

Exactly the reason why I buy the stuff Jan makes!

I don't want to argue with you, so I'm leaving it with this.

Im not attempting to engage you in an argument. Im just trying to figure out what you're referring to.

Should you ever make a version (upgraded in some demonstrable way would be great, but stock would be fine too) of the crossfeed circuit, please let me know! Particularly if you make a balanced variant ;).

I found your post (like Jan's response) even-tempered and reasonable. Not sure where the emotion from others is coming from.

Guess I triggered something? I dunno, I just dont' really equate Meier gear with fanboyism, which is usually what you find when it comes to people doing the "rah rah, my gear is the BEST" stuff. Oh well...maybe Jan has all sorts of groupies banging down his door and staking out his home at night...never know! :)

Ha!! Only if there's any justice in the world ;). Although I don't know if there's a Mrs Dr Jan, who might not appreciate such a sentiment :P

lol, good point

I was just having a quick email chat with Jan, and he told me something that I had no idea of...

Someone in the Audeze thread posted how Audeze typically recommends around 1-4 wpc to get the most out of their headphones. I knew the Classic was putting out more current than the Corda Jazz, but Jan said the spec on the Classic at 22Ohm is 4.5 wpc! I had no idea it was pumping out that much juice...this explains in large part why I was so impressed with the way the Classic paired with the LCD-2s, as well, which are more current hungry than the Xs, as the Classic pumps out just under 2 wpc into those things.

I knew that I was hearing a significant improvement with the Classic over just an iphone or something, and this is obviously a big reason why. Jan's Classic is driving the balls off the Audezes!  I had no idea of the output since Jan doesn't have this listed on his website (that I could find, anyway).

I love being a Meier customer :)

Hi Focker . Did you notice some difference between the Jazz & the Classic ?

I had the Jazz and the Concerto but not together. That been said I remembered that the Jazz was a bit warmer than the Concerto. I don't know if my memory fools me or not :o

At the levels I listen at, they sound very close...the Jazz is a very underrated amp and a tremendous value. I should have asked Jan what the Jazz put out, as well...I'll have to send off another email. But I love both these amps very much. I had several offers to sell the Jazz when I upgraded, but I have no desire at all to do that.

They both sound very neutral to my ears, which is exactly what I'm after. I spend much more time with the Classic than I do the Jazz these days, but I could be very happy with either.

that probably doesn't help you at all, but that's all I got lol. Id say if someone doesn't have the Daccord, the Classic is the no brainer since it has the full crossfeed circuit, whereas the Jazz has the "appetizer" version. The value of the Classic is off the charts, in that respect...a powerful, neutral amp AND the full crossfeed? heck yeah...amazing deal.

I actually have the Concerto and Jazz.

They sound quite similar, I wonder if I could tell them apart in a double blind test, not that I've tried extensively though. In my primary rig I'm using the Concerto with a T1, and in my bedroom I got the Jazz with a DT990/600. There's a much bigger difference between the headphones than with the amplifiers for sure.

The Corda Jazz is about as high-end as I need :D

Agreed on all counts. The Jazz is a fantastic little amp. If more people knew about it (and Jan's other fantastic gear) it would be one of the most popular amps on head-fi, IMO.

Ok thks for these feedback.

I'm a fan of this amp too and I'm still interested tu purchase a daccord.Right now I've ordered an amp for my HD800 (DNA sonett 2) but after the amp i'll be on the market for my end game dac and the DACCORD is still on top of my wishlist.  The rega dac does marvels with the HD800. Very good combo indeed and I hope I could have the same synergy with the DACCORD but with more features (crossfeed & tonal balance é preamp)

Anyone compared the daccord and the rega dac ?

Been listening to the Meier stack while loading the entire library in the imac. 1500 cd . I will be done with that project early this week but the Classic and daccord been getting lots of hours. i will start using the daccord with the oppo transport next week to see how it compares  for folks wanting to use it for cd playback. I can spend long hours using the Stack and that is a good sign. Zero fatigue. They just disappear. Impressive work by Jan.
