Meier Audio Daccord - Page 31

I have tried the HD800 and it sounds good as I knew  it would because Jan uses the Beyer and Sennheiser phones to voice his amps. I will be talking about the hd800 and others it in a detailed review. I been enjoying the combo for sure especially with the planar headphones.

Definitely sounds encouraging. Out of curiousity, what source/dac do you currently use as your reference?  Just to get an idea of your taste in sources and bounce off of that.  I'm liking the Anedio I'm using right now but some people have said they think it is on the drier/analytical side.  I don't find it too bad in that regard but there is always the slight oddness of the Sabre treble.  I've owned several Sabre based DACs in the past but am still curious of others as well.  Of course implementation is key.

On a side note, if I'm lucky I may have a chance to audition an upcoming iFi Audio desktop DAC if it releases in time for the meet I'm organizing.  Seems like it could be a good point of comparison with the Daccord.  Perhaps I can convince Jan to ship a Daccord loaner out for demo purposes at my meet like the iFi distributor is.  The more points of comparison the better to me.

I use the Oppo BDP 105 which has  the ESS sabre dac inside.  I will include some AB comparisons with the Sabre Dac. I will also be getting the new Heed Canolot with the USB dac shortly to compare. That will be interestign because the pricing should be close to the Meirer stack.

I've admired the synergy of the HD800 with the Meier Stack, one adjustment I've made overt time is pumping up the bass on the Classic, an easy adjustment that brings out the lower end of the HP.

Have you thought about doing the Oppo ModWright Mod ?

I find that using the mid bass boost on the Daccord  rather than the Classic works better for me. I leave the Classic on default settings.

Actually I have. Interesting you ask. Part Time Audiophile publisher Scot Hull has one and we are doing a head-up joint review on both the Modwright and stock units together. Actually Friday i will hear it at Scot house. I have heard one before in the NY winter meet.

After monkeying around with the JRMC crossfeed settings a bit, I felt they were really helpful in some places and off-putting in others. I've been looking into the separate crossfeed units that Jan used to sell (he has a DIY schematic out for them as well), and I'm thinking about picking one up, as I haven't heard another crossfeed solution that worked as well across as many types of songs as Dr. Meier's.

Interesting, I'll give that a try.

I know I asked him about a stand alone crossfeed product and he confirmed that he did used to sell one, so hopefully you can track one down. If more people knew how awesome Jan's is, the market for such a product could probably re-establish itself.

Talking about Crossfeed, here's something interesting (supposed to increase soundstage) :

Have you tried the TbIsone vst plugin with Jriver?

He did used to sell a cross feed unit. I have one called the Cordacross - 1. Nice device to have. Completely passive.

I have not. I've heard good things though-- you dig it?

Yep, that's the one. If you look at the DIY versions, they seem crazy simple-- but then, I have no idea what I'm really looking at, so that probably doesn't mean much :P. It would be interesting to have an updated unit with all the customizing capabilities of the StageDAC, balanced I/O, and the benefits of the tweaks he's made to the circuit since the Cordacross came out. Doubt we'll ever see it, but a man can dream, can't he? ;)

That's an interesting idea. My boss has told me to come up with some ways to expand our business, maybe we could convince Jan to have a US partner making alternative versions of his products with additional features. But is there a market?
