Meier Audio Daccord - Page 11

Lol! That's awesome man ;)

In my quest to find some more reviews on the Daccord and Classic (seriously, why the %^& is it so hard to find reviews on these???), I stumbled across a Vietnamese site with a six-page thread discussing both units here. If anyone here is fluent and cares to summarize for the rest of us, I for one would be very appreciative!!

I tried Google Translate, but had difficulty deciphering the possible meanings of posts like this:

"e are interested in the classic m1 eyelid hpa 2 children peered built this beautiful wa "

and

"^ Open the hearts of classic sputum is ecstatic instant =))"

;)

Another (rather short) thread here on the Australian Headphonic site, which includes posts by a familiar-lookin' fella named Jesterphile ;).

I plan on posting any other reviews I find, unless it draws the ire of my fellow Head-Fiers (hey, I rhymed!! :D)

Edit: and another from the same site. Seems to have a lot of Meier stuff there, one of the guys appears to be a Meier dealer in Australia.

I was once directed by a headfier - who I don't think had heard them - to a site which reviewed the Stagedac (and possibly Concerto too) and concluded they weren't very good. This 'review' was meant to 'prove' the headfier's contention along the same lines.

The review was atrocious. There was no method: no careful comparison to other DACs or amps, no use of a variety of combinations of equipment or genres of music. It was obvious the 'reviewer' had made his mind up that these would be nothing special before he'd so much as switched them on.

I forget the name of the site but to me it just showed any fool can put up a website and call themselves an audio-reviewer!

I'm not a fan of 6 Moons' dense prose but they did an honest job and thought well of both. Concerto was compared with the Burson of the time.

Just a warning in case you discover the above site Theogenes.

Yep, pretty sure I found that one already. But honestly, as easily as I can sometimes be persuaded to doubt the quality or virtues of whatever bit of gear I'm obsessively researching at a given time, I found that review to give so little actual information and seem so unreasonably dismissive that I chalked it up to stereotypical audiophile haughty idiocy and dismissed it out of hand. That's the only negative review I've found thus far, actually.

Thanks for the heads-up though-- it can unfortunately take an incredibly small amount of bad press, warranted or not, to derail a lot of potential buyers, particularly when there aren't many other reviews available to provide context and a quorum of opinions. Had I read Tyll's comments on the T5p prior to my purchase, for example, I almost certainly wouldn't have bought them... and would have missed out on a spectacularly good set of headphones as a result.

As for the 6moons article, I went into it frankly dreading it-- I was a literature major in college and loathe nothing more than vacuous, pompous verbosity for its own sake, which is what I've found that site to be an overwhelming majority of the time. (Pity too, as they seem to get a lot of gear that really interests me). But I agree, the Concerto/STAGEDAC reviews weren't too bad, and they were written by Srajan himself if memory serves.

I'm trying to work out my finances right now to allow for a Classic/Daccord combo, and if I can make it happen, I will definitely post my thoughts, good or bad. Seems like the only way a lot of people will get the chance to learn about Dr. Meier's stuff is from us, and it would give me an excuse to geek out on new gear wink.gif

Anyway, thanks for the tip man. I've learned that there isn't a particularly strong relationship between hype and reality a lot of the time, and you've got to just bite the bullet and lay out some cash to try things out occasionally. Hopefully I'll be able to here wink.gif

Heh, I hear you about the verbosity. Yes, it was Srajan.

Professionally, I'm a social psychologist with discourse analysis being one of my specialties. His text strikes me as a potentially fine example of "If I write so my advertisers can't understand what I'm saying, I can't p_ss them off" biggrin.gif

After a long while I concluded the man can hear! Just takes an awful lot of effort to decode, as you know.

Good luck with the finances, and thanks for the work you're doing finding these reviews beerchug.gif

I have the Meier Classic/DAC on the way in 7-10 days.  I'll post my review after it arrives.  Thanks for all the posts.

Woohoo! Jan is sending out amps and dacs all over the place!

...aaand just saw that the new Resonessence DAC is out, which also looks extremely interesting. Dang!

You can never get something great enough that something here can't make you at least wonder if you've missed out, lol! I'll stick by the Meier stuff until I have reason not to though-- that ultra clean sound just hits my ears perfectly ;)

Sent my payment in this morning for my Daccord!! Wish I could have gotten the Classic too, but the finances don't allow it for now. Here's hoping it's a significant upgrade over my Yulong D100!!

The way Jan and Schiit handle their customer service, it's nice to have someone to trust in this business.
