Heir Audio Tzar 90 and Tzar 350 Universal In Ear Monitors - Page 48

I definitely like the Heir 4.Ai better in my opinion. Better overall balance.

Not to take anything away from the Tzar 350. They are pretty impressive for its clarity but the treble peak definitely turned me off.

I listen at a pretty low level as well.

I never heard any treble peak

So after a little bit of tip rolling, I'll post some really quick, raw impressions of the Tzar 90 (with my background in this tier being mainly the SM3):

The comfort is awesome. I really love these IEMs in my ears, and if they somehow made a large bore Shure olive, I'd be in heaven. The included tips seem for the most part fine with me. I have a blue tip on my L ear for comfort, and a red tip on my right ear for rigidity. My ears are weird like that.

The sound signature......well, I want to say it's a V shape, but not a huge dip with other cans I've tried. I'm having hard time really figuring out this little guys sound, and I feel that part of it is listening bias, coming from arguably one of the darkest mid-centric IEM's made. I feel that this is a warm IEM like Wizard says, but isn't mid-centric, at least to my ears. The 500-1.5k region there seems to be a dip, but I'll check that out more over time. The bass is tight, punchy, and sounds great. I wish there was a tad more sparkle to these, but I kind of knew what I was getting. Overall they sound like a great IEM, but I have to get used to them.

The Tzar 350 shines with the M-Stage amp! It is sublime.

It works well with most sources, very quiet and has a very flat response (a little hot in the treble which could be tamed down by a tube amp). With the right amp, the bass is really present and tight.

I want to have a listen to it on other tube amps. I think it works better with amps that has a higher output impedance (correct me if I am wrong). I don't have the opportunity to try it with other amps at the moment.

I've been under the impression that lower output impedance is always ideal for any headphone.

No not always, matter of fact many times having higher impedance may be beneficial. Lower OI sources are more versatile though as you can use an adapter to increase resistance

Take a look here. Those cheap foam tips are similar to decored Olives, with a large bore. Not sure if they'll fit the Tzar 350 well...

I've been waiting since the last time you made that claim for any sort of documentation supporting it. A higher output impedance is good for absolutely nothing.

Of topic. But what is the difference between a sources output impedance and using something like Etymotics P to S adaptor that adds 75 ohms ?

Thank you =)

I have tested the Tzar 350 with the RWAK100. There is a pretty bad amount of sibilance for voices that almost make listening unbearable in less than a minute. I tried to make do but I failed so I ended up doing some EQ. I am not sure if it works better on the AK100.

One thing for sure is that the M-Stage + Tzar 350 is simply sublime.

I agree when we're talking good things but say you need the bass loosened up or loading eq, it could actually benefit the odd device. That said, I still agree and don't like the 2 wrongs making a right approach, especially by happen chance.

Maybe you want to ask DNA why they purposely made the Sonett with the 120ohms output impedance?
