The Tzar is probably just about as neutral as you get

Is it true that the 350 is slightly less bright than the ER-4S? I ask, because sometimes I often find myself prefer a touch less energy (3-5 dB) in the 8kH-12kH range of the ER-4S. Also, how is the treble extension and detail compared to the JH-13?

  • In a nutshell: feels like a super CK10 --- I don't want to say anymore about the presentation before I get more listening

I must know more about this super CK10.  In what ways is it like the CK10 and what makes it super?

I have not had an ER4 for several years so I can't really say but several ER4 owners I know find the Tzar to be superior in almost every way but perhaps not quite the same tone, it is certainly superior to my HF2. On treble extension and detail it probably best my JH13, there is certainly more sparkle. The JH13 is probably better at the low end and the mid range is a toss up. I don't find the Tzar hot in any way

Thanks. That helps a lot.

Yes, the Tzar350 is slightly less bright than ER4S. Less hot treble, more sparkling - like some of beyerdynamics headphones (T70)

I'm not sure if you're being serious or not (the "^^" threw me off).  But what do you mean when you say neutral?  It's really a word that's just thrown around nowadays.  If sticking to the definition, I'll tell you the 4.Ai is not neutral, but I do see why some say it is.  No comment on the Tzar though, so I can't really answer your question.  But if you do the odd, weird math out, the chances of the Tzar being (more) neutral just went up.

Actually, I'm not sure he was being serious (the ":)" threw me off). I cannot make head or tail of "There's "neutral," and there's neutral". I would just like for a more elaborate opinion, of course from those who've listened to both.

I come from the speaker world, and there it is possible to have a clearer (though not ultimate) definition of neutral, as frequency response is correctly measurable, and is not affected by the shape of the ear lobe and hole and so on. So forgive me if I may have a different definition from yours guys, but please elaborate what you mean with neutral and neutral, with regards to 4ai vs. tsar.

I think he was referring to "neutral" as the neutral-sounding, ever so slightly warm sound of the 4.Ai and neutral as the strictly, measurably ruler flat neutral sound of the Tzar 350.

Seems like they have not begun to ship the Tzars yet.

That's not true. They began shipping them on Monday, where I received my shipping notice, as well as Sasaki. I've already received mine. Heir is shipping them out according to the order by which the pre-orders went in, as stated by Heir way back in the beginning of the thread.

Ahh. Then it either means that they are many people who pre-ordered it or their stocks is on the low.

Thank you. I had read your review, but I wanted for more opinions. Nevertheless I think now that it's clear that the tzar 350 is more neutral of the 4ai.

Anyone get the Tzar 90s yet? I'm still highly interested in some impressions on them. I would probably use them without an amp but I'm open to getting an amp in the future. Do they have a neutral sound signature or is it warmer? How is the bass???

If you can wait, I'll give impressions on Monday or Wednesday, whenever I get them in :)
