Go with the 3.Ai, the punch they  deliver on Take The Power Back will knock the fillings out of your teeth. The Tzar 350 is best described as an aquired taste with RATM.

Edit: Don't ask me if there's a way to get the best of them all, your wallet will not like the answer.

I bet you are going to say the 8.a's:)

Mate you are right but in the end when you do it you might as well go out with a bang.:) and take the power back is one of my favorite tracks.

My biggest worry is that the 350 will not have the weight to make sludgier metal energetic. That's one big thing, if they have "airy" detail I may be better off getting the 4.

I ended up biting the bullet and went for the 4.a.

I can not wait to get the CEIM's especially for the current price. Have a feeling you can not go wrong for that price.

I started out looking at the 3.A but then I figured that since I was going through the hassle of impressions, shipping, waiting etc... Might as well get it right the first time as I know myself well enough to realize that upgradeitis would set in otherwise. TTPB is the best track I've ever heard for testing bass punch.

The 4.A(i) is a far better all-round IEM than the 350 in my opinion. But what the 350 does well, it brings to a whole new level. Vocals and strings are jaw-droppingly good on it.

One of my metalhead friends has the HD800 as they're able to keep up with the guitars. He heard my 4.Ai and now has a set of 4.A on the way because of their speed and detail level and their ability to do sparkly treble without being painful.

Edit: Just saw your post, congrats on the purchase! Be sure to post pictures and impression in The Home of The Heir-heads.

I'm thinking of the 90's, just because I wanted higher impedance and (ideally) a smooth, detailed sound. Would you say the 3.ai's were smooth, or V shaped?

So, despite fair warning, I but on the 350's. I guess this thread will blow up come mid December!

Mine have slightly different housings on each side (4.ai). Do remember, there will very likely be differences from pair to pair, and even left to right, as I seem to recall that they are hand made.

I finally finished and posted my review of the Tzar 350: http://www.head-fi.org/products/heir-audio-tzar-350/reviews/7909

Sorry about the typos and all that redface.gif

I enjoyed reading it. Thanks. :D

Great review Soren. We'll see if my music lives through these when I get mine in December! BTW has anyone preordered the 90's yet? You better make sure you let us know wink.gif

Great review. As Misshorn indicated hopefully we get some inpressions of the 90's as well.

lets just hope wizard thinks of having 'another' contest for the tzar 350/90 with more eligibility for  international head-fiers

Oh man. I really wanna try the 90's. Anyone wouldn't wanna do a temporary swap of them for the W4R would they? :P (not that anyone probably has the 90's yet)

We don't mind the contest, but the eligibility requriements are set by Head Fi, not us
